I'm thinking about getting the existing RA seats modified for more support and comfort. To do this I have to unplug the airbag wires.
Any one know of any issues if I unplug the seats, mod them, put the seats back in and reattach the airbag wires?
I'm terrified of the airbag going off in my face or worse still, not going off as and when needed!!
Regards,
VC

Yes Sam, that's why people say to press the brake pedal, to drain any power left, although there would be bugger all, and nowhere for it to go as no return path to battery
Anyway,
I have removed my seat(s) and I didn't even disconnect the battery, I just had the key (smart key knob actually) in OFF and made sure it was not put back on untill all plugged back in.
Switching the key to ON will initiate the SRS ECU and therefore it would register a error code then. If you're plugging in the same module you won't get an error light after it's plugged back in.
In addition to this, if the airbag is ever replaced with another module, the new module has to be programmed into the SRS ECU to clear the light.

if you have side and curtain airbags i would not be modifying seats without a proper engineers cert
any modification to a seat re bolsters ect even re trimming can hinder the activation of the side and curtain airbags in the event of an accident
so if you actually want the side and curtain i wouldnt get the seats touched

Yeah I'm getting an certified technician to have a look at it. He's not going to touch the airbag, just adding additiional support (knock off Recaros anyone?) for the back, thighs and additional shoulder support.
Apparently the issue with airbags not going off correctly has to do with the stitching of the seat cover that is designed to give way in the event of an airbag going off. Something to bear in mind.
Has anyone done this before - I've been quoted about $1k per seat to get each one re-done, which I thought was a lot cheaper than paying $12k for Evo 10 seats.
