Heaviest item(s) you've carried in your CJ Lancer?

Postby XTPN » Fri Oct 16, 2015 11:22 pm

Had to deliver 20 bags of potting mix today. 17 in the boot and 3 in the passenger seat, surprised it fit. The rear of the car was quite low lol.

What have you carried in your Lancer before? Or has anyone towed? :)

Easiest way to lower your CJ, go to Bunnings

Not carried much weight in the CJ yet, apart from a boot load of groceries. But in my smaller CC coupe with tow bar I once drove from Sydney to Hervey Bay with a 7x4 trailer packed with belongings which tested the little car.

Apart from a few bags of potting mix or the occasional heavy passenger I don't really see me carrying much weight until a planned road trip which has been shelved until the summer is over.

Can I ask how many here have a tow bar on there CJ or are planing to get one?

And on the tow bar talk, best tow bar to buy which doesn't require rear bumper cut out??

Heaviest thing my new CJ carries is the groceries.

In my CH, that little car loved to work - I had it fully loaded with a 8x5 trailer, building waste, 700kG. Slow going up hill, and the brakes got tested too..
The CH was an awesome machine.

See this is another reason they should have made a proper wagon version and not the 'sports' back thing. Would have love to see a wagon CJ!

managed to fit a new hooded 4 burner BBQ into the back seat i bought for a friend. took a lot of swearing and such to get it in though. bloody boot was too small because of the AWD in the RA so couldnt fit it in to there, and the doors were just not opening wide enough to slide the box in neatly.

There was a stock CJ tow-bar set for sale on eBay the other week. I was really temped to get it but couldn't justify it.

I want to get a tow bar as im constantly moving houses and dont want to always rely on my dads car to tow.
Heaviest ive had is a lawn mower in my boot :P
Ive also completely filled my boot and backseat with 7 large garbage bags of wet grass, no room left to move after that.

The heaviest thing I've put in my CJ is my ego. I'm from the US, so you can imagine that it's rather hefty to drag around.

Back with my CC I had a delivery of pamphlets I got printed up, loaded up the boot and back seat, laid down. It was like I'd put lower springs on the back so a lot of weight. Had a 200km trip to Hervey Bay with the weight, much better on the way back!

So far the most I've had in the CJ was 2 bags of potting mix. But planning a trip interstate, 3 people and a boot load of luggage.

It's a shared platform with the ASX and Outlander (although the sharing has seemed to have waned unfortunately), I guess the Sportsback was simpler to develop. Of course it also looks more sporty than a wagon.
I might add a pic of my car once I style the exterior a bit :).

That's why Americans love pickup trucks, they need the load carrying capability *eyebrows*

Don't know if designing a wagon would be a whole lot harder, at one point they had a coupe, sedan, wagon and 5 door fast back hatch.

Also it comes down to personal opinion as to what is sporty, I personally like the look of the Commodore wagon in the latest generations with the gentle slope at the rear. Plus in Europe there are quite a lot of hot Estate versions from Merc, BMW and Audi. Even in the CH line there are some great looking hot versions people have modified over the years.

This could have been so cool!

But I guess market research told them to limit the CJ range to the sedan and sports back.

I carry around my hopes and dreams every day, that's quite a load :)

Edited because I can't spell, lets blame auto text correct :)
