NSW : Mobile Speed Cameras question

Postby parralegend » Wed May 08, 2013 7:25 pm

Hi guys,

Hope this is the correct forum.

Anyways I was driving down a road this morning that was a 60 zone and me being a bad boy :twisted: was going probably 5-8 over that.

Diagram:

-----------------------Lane 1-------------------------------->
-----------------------Lane 2-----Me--------------------------->
====================================(Middle Line)
<---------------------Lane 3----------------------------------
<---------------------Lane 4----------^FORD^---MSC---------------

I was driving down and saw a Ford territory pull out and as I went past it,
a sneaky bastard mobile speed camera was parked on the side of the road

My question is although I know they are capable of doing 6 lanes on a freeway both directions I heard they are only doing speed checks in one direction http://smh.drive.com.au/roads-and-traff ... 2eb5e.html

Can anyone confirm this is the case, newspapers tend to spin bullshit but I did hear this was the case. I just hate to think I got beaten by that bastard even though I'm super vigilant it's just my view was obscured by another bulls*** territory :).

There was absolutely no signage on my side of the road or on the opposite side leading up to it, I couldn't see if there was a sign further down the road in the direction I was traveling but knowing how they usually set them up on this road it was most unlikely, I was rampaging at the time over it though.

Yer I was speeding that's my fault to cop this on the chin but I'd rather get a lecture from a crunchy than pay a cent to macquarie friken bank :).

Thanks guys

As per the article you linked to, this is true...
New OH&S rules (have to love public service bureaucracy) state that operators are now "not allowed for safety reasons" to cross the other side of the road to put signs up.
Although the Redflex (the company that operates the SUVs on contract) technology is capable of scanning vehicles across multiple lanes in both directions, they only ping vehicles in the direction they are parked in.

So, in short, you're safe. :)

Just to make you feel better. Whatever speed youre doing on your spedometre, youre actually doing -5 that speed. So if youre doing 60. Youre actually doing 55. If you were 5 over the limit at that time you wouldve been doing 60. If u said you went up to 8 over the limit, you wouldve been doing 63. They wouldnt pull u for that :p

Most lancers are about -10%, but yeah.

This forum does not encourage speeding :P

I have seen police on the opposite side of the road & then there has been another police car on my side just around the next bend as if they are teaming up & they can radio through to each other .... Just a Thought for you :)

Yer I see the police traps all the time around my area.

They usually sit on a freeway and make themselves out to be obvious as hell and the next blind bend there's another one on a bike that you can't see it's like a offside trap lol but of course I dont get caught because I follow the rules in that regard :)
