New car

Postby arvust » Fri Jan 04, 2013 3:50 pm

Hey, currently looking to buy a new car.

I had originally set out to buy a cheap to run/reliable brand new car (2012 Ford Focus), but would like to explore a more enjoyable ride before buying anything.

I have found a couple of 2010 model Lancer CJ MY11 Ralliarts on carsales in Adelaide under <40,000km that look fun.

Could anyone give me a rough idea of upkeep costs to be expected?

Cheers,
Josh

OH man I just answered your other thread.

Normal service around $200
Major service 90,000k's is expensive around $1200+

This is at a mitsu dealer, so other places will be cheaper. But if you want to keep the 5 year warranty. Then go with Mitsu service. Just remember that the previous owner needs to have done this as well.

Oh yeah these cars like to drink top shelf and a lot of it

Haha yeah i saw that, sorry i wasn't sure if anyone would actually reply to new member posts.

Thanks for the information! Is the service interval 5000 or 15,000?

And yeah I have heard that about the fuel, trying to look past that at the moment..

I'm 6'5 and am aware that Mitsubishi's don't have the best reputation among tall drivers so I am planning to go sit in one soon to see if it fit!

7500km service interval

There is no reach adjustment for Lancers. Although there is one guy here who's real tall and even bought 2 CJ Lancers.
I've read some tall drivers find it hard to live with the Recaro seats which are the optional fancy ones.

Fuel usage can be helped with an engine tune, but it will never be "economical"

If it's 2011 onwards it will have the set price service which is $130 & $260 alternate.
Tuning (free gst (google & look at evom site) or professional) will make huge difference to fuel consumption, shifting and power. They are seriously good fun daily drivers imo
- Self tuned - work in progress - tune revision #16_03
- GS 3 port controlled wooooot :)
- Lowered on Kings
- Black Evo X FMIC/ Evo IX BOV/ Depo HFC/ UR UICP
- Awesome self installed Alpine/JL Audio sound system
- Whiteline Rear Swaybar

Ahhh okay, I am incredibly tempted to peruse the Ralliart option, I just don't know if I can justify twice the servicing cost and the extra fuel consumption at this stage in my life.

Might just have to make do with the Focus for now...The Ralliart will haunt my dreams though I think.

By the way, thanks for your help rok, much appreciated.

the Ralliart definitely isnt a very economical car to drive around. In saying that, after all my mods and a professional tune I got 7.5L per 100km for the first time on an empty freeway yesterday :D was very happy with that.

But thats being very conservative and not being a lead foot, which unfortunately the RA brings out in everyone. It is a very fun car to drive.

Well yeah servicing can be expensive.

Keep in mind the Ralliart is cheap to mod. You can get a lot for a couple of hundred bucks.

But yeah a few people choose the focus over RA, I've heard that before. I would suggest you drive both if you haven't already. The SST is an awesome gearbox IMO.

Gee ralliarts are fuel efficient. My evo is 9.8 on long highway drives, very easy driving nothing to heavy.

Is your GSR a manual? The SST helps with a 6th cog.

The RA's have taller 5th and 6th gears. I've got a best of 8.7l/100k stock and 7.8l/100k after tuning

Evo SSTs have shorter 5th and 6th ratios, so they will rev a bit higher on the freeway, which could mean extra consumption. Adding S-Sport in the RA SST would make it kick almost like a conventional manual, but with much less shift time compared to having a third pedal.

Does Creat'd do RA servicing? It wouldn't be a nightmare to your wallet compared to Mitsu.
