Strange noise from CVT gearbox?

Hey everyone,

Tonight I noticed my car has started making a very strange, audible and consistent noise.

When the car is in park and you press on the brake pedal you can hear this noise similar to a loud click coming from the gearbox area, what I am assuming is the mechanism that engages the CVT so you can put the car from P into R or D. This happens everytime you press the pedal while its in Park.

The same noise is made when then moving the gear from P into R or D and back again.

Any ideas what this is? Obviously going to hassel Mitsubishi (once again) as to why my 2 year old car is being such a pain in my buttootie.

it the gear box lock solenoid, it is a safety feature to stop you being able to pull the car out of park without your foot on the brake.

ah ok so thats what its called, any reason why has all of a sudden become so loud? and to also make the noise when only just tapping the break pedal?

not sure why it has become loud but I have always been able to hear mine. As soon as I tap the brake pedal with the car in park I can hear the solenoid release.

maybe i have just never noticed it before.. just seems weird that all of a sudden after a couple years i would notice it to be loud, maybe ill just get them to check it over at next service which is due in a couple thousand.

It clicks loud for me when i step on the brake in P too.

However, you said it also clicks when you physically move the gear shift from P into R/D? I don't think that is normal?

hopefully gearbox fails and they can give me a manual instead haha so over the CVT...

It is just a loud solenoid in the gear selector.

Just get your mechanic to remove it and lubricate it.

Mines quite loud as well, only ever in P though when i tap the brakes. My cars done 60000+ k's though, so it probably gets louder as it ages?
