Lights in front grill Switched from cabin?

Postby Joel006 » Fri May 25, 2012 8:13 pm

Hey ClubCJ,

Im looking at installing White led strips in my front grill, behind it so it lights up the inside.
I have a few questions i hope that you guys will be able to answer:

Firstly, Is there a way to get from the Cabin to the Engine bay? I had a search tonight, and found one spot that was easy to get to, but it would mean drilling a hole into the rubber where all of the cables go in, In about the center of the Engine bay, i wish to avoid that as i don't want to damage and of those cables.

Second:
There is a plug up the front of my car, Show in the picture below:

What does this cable/plug do? i am assuming it is for an extra that comes in the upper models. Is it switched by ignition? or by the headlights?

Third:
What does the 2 buttons behind the gear stick do? there is the parking sensor button and 2 blanks. What is each blank? can i use it for a switch for these lights behind bumper/grill? (Picture below:)

Also, Unrelated to this particular Section of the forum:
I live is QLD, cannot find Plastic-Dip for doing the black NON PERMANENT paint on the front bumper. I do NOT wish to sand it back nor do i want the paint that is there to peel and be removed in anyway.

IS there an alternative to plastic dip anywhere?

1st: There is a unused Grommet Hole just above and to the right of the accelerator pedal, all you do it poke this out and run cables through and it comes out behind the suspension mounting in the engine bay.

2nd: dunno. but LEDs are fairly easy to wire to the battery w/ a switch.

3rd: not sure what they are used for but it is fine to use for switches, or even use the button next to the Traction control to the right of the steering wheel.

4th: For Plasti-dip try ebay. or get a vinyl from our club vendor

Also i have a Platinum Edition Lancer aswell. If you need a picture of the grommet ill take one.

Cheers.

I noted you're new here so first off, welcome.

There's a search function on the top right of your screen, please try and use that.

The car has been around since 2008. Anything you can think of, it's likely someone here has done and attempted.

1. As pointed out by bettsay, take out the wheel well on the right of the driver's side, you will find a grommet there you can smuggle some wires in from.

2. That is for the OEM alarm system.

3. The 2 blanks are connected to the central wiring loom of the car.
Remember that the wiring looms are made for the whole range of cars, from ES to RA.

So one plug is used for the Adaptive lighting system in Aspires.
The other wiring is for the changing the driving style of the car in RAs i.e. Tarmac, Snow and Gravel.

You probably will be able to use the adpative lighting system if you get a set of OEM HIDs with the motors.
But even if you plug a switch into the other, you won't be able to adapt the car's driving since these functions are not in the NA's ECU.

You are able to use the Red and Green wires in each plug to trigger lights in the night. So what I do is to tie them to some LEDs which come on only when its night. Since those wires carry power to light up the switches when your head lamps light up in the night.

And your last question, why can't you just use vinyl? Why must it be painted?

And perhaps how I did my front grill neon might help you.

Good luck.
