i was about to post up my 2c worth then you had solved it!

I was going to say that my speakers (X530) pop the same in XP, XPMCE, vista, 7 etc

But I run a SoundBlaster Audigy2 ZS mofos 8-)

Ive got a Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook 7.1ch output on my laptop. Sounds better than my desktop rofl

I got X-Fi on my PC's motherboard.
Its nice, but my 5.1 Headphones are nicer.
