Widening Track with wheel spacers

Postby draevon » Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:41 am

I have a VR with Ralliart wheels. For mine they sit just a fraction too far inside the guards, so I was windering, has anyone experimented with using wheel spacers to widen the track on a CJ Lancer? I don't think it would need much, even 10mm/side would look better I think. Might end up giving it a shot anyways but just was wondering if anyone has heard of it being done on a CJ yet?

It would look better, but i believe adding wheel spacers is illegal...In melbourne anyway. Not sure of the laws in Brisbane..

Edit: Looks like it is..

Page 11 of 18 - http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/resourc ... icles2.pdf

The fitting of spacers or adaptors between wheels and
hubs, additional to those provided by the vehicle
manufacturer, is not permitted.

Not like they'd ever know or anything. Just as long as thought they dont foul the gaurds you should be okay

Also it would add extra stress and wear on your hubs and bearings, so you gotta keep that in mind too.

It is really surprising just how much extra stress is created by only a slight spacer.

maybe a bit wider rubber, would not have as much of an effect on the hubs and bearings.

Yeah that's what I was thinking ... 10mm hub centric front and rear.

getting spacers puts more stress on your hub , and your bolts that are in your hub. not to memntion you will either 1 have 2 sets of hub bolts or 2 have to cut your original ones so the wheel can fit on the spacers bolts. either way dont bother. buy bigger wheels if you really want them to be further out.
