Try not to let ur gas go below a quarter. It puts more strain on ur fuel pump and u can get crap in ur fuel lines and clog up ur filter pretty quick. Also, try not to pour gas if u see a truck filling up the stations reservoir as they shake up the garbage and that could get pumped into ur car

I tend to agree with s21197. Especially with the delivery of the fuel by the truck, as it causes alot of turbulence etc.

so if theres always crap we should always not refill till the light comes on. so we take out crap each time we drive and not take out bulk crap later. lol

i just remember my friend pushed his luck with his rav4 fuel light from campbelltown to bankstown. we made it but scared the crap out of me didnt want to walk.

ok when you get " --- " on your display with the REFUEL warning,
the petrol bowser symbol falshes once every second.....
this means you have approx 50 kms of fuel remaining.

When your Fuel Metre has completly emptied on your display you will recieve another REFUEL warning,
the bowser symbol will flash twice every second,
this indicates that you have approx 30 kms of fuel remaining.....

Now that is the sort of answer I was looking for. So when the bottom bar on the graph disappears, you have approx. 30km left. Cool!

Thanks Ozie.

yeah, its catch 22..

More fuel in tank is better for economy because there isn't as much fumes which cant burn but the car ways more.. go figure

I have filled up about 30km after the first refuel light came on (slow flashes) and still had around 8 litres left in the tank, which is another 100km or thereabouts

Whitlam, my experience is similar to yours.
I cannot remember exact figures but know that there is approx11L remaining when 1st light comes on and even 5 odd litres when second warning starts.
I get approx 10 and a bit km/L in normal suburban driving.

I think an approx value for 1st warning is mentioned in manual but I know mine was higher.

A mechanic friend just told me he rarely finds much crap in the bottom of peoples tanks or their fuel filters at changing times.

All fuel selling agents with pumps have to meet stringent guidelines as far as I am aware for fuel quality and cleanness just as in aviation.

How about fill up as soon as the alarm come up. The tank size is 55 litres....then do the maths, including knowing your normal fuel consumption. (imagine each car is slightly different, and every driver is different. A 2 litre v's 2.4, etc etc...all a little different)

Totally agree....try to never run too low to prevent running on the gritty bits!

If I waited that long for the second warning I'd be pushing my car.... I've filled up within a few kms of the 50km warning light and it has taken just under 48 litres. First I though oh the pump must be wrong, but its happened again 47litres with about 70km to go supposedly. Now given we supposedly have 49 litre tank I wonder how the car thinks its going to last that long on 1 or 2 litres of petrol. :?

Guys it is a 59 Litre tank!!!! ( all NA models)

55L in RA and Evo which is too small for such thirsty cars due to lack of space caused by AWD system
