Dash mat

Postby Bandit » Thu Jan 29, 2009 1:50 pm

I am thinking about getting a dash mat.

Are they where it's at, or gay?

The main two reasons I would get one is to protect the dash from the sun and also to reduice reflection of the dash onto the windscreen - I've noticed a couple of times that the outline of the 'humps' over the dials are fairly visible and somewhat distracting.

Has anyone else got one and if so, where did you get it??

Mitsu may make a dash mat, if so it should be listed on accessory section of website.

I never saw the need in any of my cars.
I use Armorall LOW SHINE, it is available at Big W. this keeps reflections to an absolute min compared to most protectants. It goes on and u can barely see it.

I've used it on all the cars I owned, some for 13yrs and the day i sold em the vinyl looked as good as the day I bought the car. They were operated in very hot sunny climates like Perth and Northern California.

They actually look pretty good if you get a Haigh one with coloured trimming and even writing if you want.

I really do feel that prolonged exposure in the sun will eventually wreck our dashes (probably more of a problem for us Aussies than the yanks...). My car spends alot of time outside especially during the middle of the day at work so yeah I didnt think twice about getting a dashmat for it.

Mine was $75 from Autobarn ($50 for mat, $10 for lancer writing and $15 for the trim)...

I was also thinking it might reduce the rate that vapours are released from the dash plastic that makes the windscreen cloudy over time. Thanks for the link Ryan - I was quoted $55 from Autobarn for a plain one. Sounds about right.... I will probably get it from Nowra.

Go see the guys at Albion Park Autobarn (to the North West of the Oak Flats interchange roundabout on the Princes Highway).

yeah that vapour is a shocker, I guess it has to help stop it coming out....

Thanks Ryan for the info,
I had my last lancer 12 years and used a dashmat on it
The dash still looked brand new when I sold her recently to buy the CJ
Armourall is also brilliant stuff I swear by it too only thing is sometimes it traps dust and can cause a film on the screen also I've found
Cheers Chris - mizta_b
