wouldn't the brakes still work? if they didn't, surely the handbrake will..

yer well thats how he stopped it good old hand brake, and apparently the brake not engaging is a fail "SAFE" yep cause not letting the brakes work is a great way to stop the car hmmm have to wonder about the so calles engineers who came up with that one, have too get get a box of corn flakes and see if i can an engineers certificate as a prize lmao

pretty sure my Mum's old Santa Fe's brakes still worked in cruise control...

Brakes should still work in cruise control.

I would've tried

Turning Cruise Control off.
Brakes.
Putting it in lower gears.
Handbrake.
Turn car off.

lol yer but if you read the report on it, that car couldnt be turned off wile moving. the curise wouldnt turn off. and the brakes didnt slow it enought before the 4wd powered through the brakes with the cruise.

and i belive it was an auto. handbrake at that speed in a 4wd would flip him. and kill him. most likely

also the brakes did work, the cruise just over powered them and only slowed him to 80 anycar if you have your foot on the gas and brakes your car will just power through the brakes unless you have like sports brakes.

I'm pretty sure a standard design regulation is that braking power must be over engine power by a ratio of 3:1 or something to that effect? Although if you look at the guy, I'm pretty sure he has no idea how to do much more in a car than turn the cruise control on, and try to keep it in the lanes.

either that or he has really week legs to push the brakes on, but i have tried it once not at 100 but under brakeing i was able to still move with heavy braking, under acceleration, not in my lancer in my mums car lol im not gonna do that in my car lol

what kind of cruise control doesnt turn off when the brake is pressed. thats just f'ed up. wouldnt you also feather the handbrake to slow you down, up, down up down etc.? but why wouldnt the car turn off?

Yeah exactly ... you don't have to jam the hand brake on, you can squeeze it up the same way you squeeze down a brake pedal. You could also click it up one click at a time until you had enough braking to pull the car up reasonably gently. I declare shenanigans.

Was watching the 7PM project last night & they had the guy on, he seemed quite blase & casual about the whole incident.

Said he called Ford firstly & they couldnt help him so he then rang 000...

the guy rang ford and ford said the car will not turn off its made like that to not turn off if its moving.

and the cruise wouldnt turnoff caues it was stuck on. its all writen in that article. so no matter what you did the cruise woudnt turn off, hence it being stuck on.

Hmm. I would have jammed it into Neutral then tried the brakes/ hand brake. Yeah the engine would rev to buggery with no load but conversely the engine wouldn't be 'fighting' against the brakes.

Edit: The button wouldn't press in? Stupid new cars. That's why I like my CVT. No button to press! My '77 Corona (automatic) would go between Drive & Neutral without button press as I recall. Used that a fair bit because it was in major need of a tune before it got stolen and would stall on idle if it was cold.
