The VW comes out with the centre of the front bumper chromed out, like what I am trying to do.

Your attempt to vinyl the front with chrome looks good in the pictures. It certainly looks like you wanted. I have never tried to vinyl but I assume chromed would be a lot less forgiving then flat black. It must have been difficult over the tow insert and the edges?

Been looking for soooo long...but not willing to pay over $500 from Mitsu to get them.

i am off to the sign writers tomorrow to pick up a piece of chromed vinyl. They said it is not very flexible and I may have trouble trying to bend it around corners, but my best mates brother use to be a sign writer and he is going to help me apply it. Hopefully we don't screw it up. I hate things when they don't look professional. If it cracks or looks shit on champagne I can always take it off and said I gave it a go. I will post pictures either way.
I am hoping to do it Saturday as I am going on MCA cruise on Sunday.

I'm half considering lighting up my grill with LED's. Only hitch is, all the auto stores in my area only have blue and well... blue is just too 'common'.

Good luck with the chrome.
I think the best way to do it will be a combination of wet and dry with a second pair of hands helping out.

Wet the center section of the bar, where the numberplate goes and leave the sides dry.
Using 2 people hold the vinyl straight over the bar and stick it on at the same time.
The soapy water in the middle of the bar will allow you to move the creases towards the center of the bar where you could cut them out and once you fit your number plate you won't be able to see the cuts in the vinyl.

Since this stuff does not stretch you are going to get creases, you just need to work out a way to move them behind your numberplate.

Ask if it's a 'chrome mylar', aspired and I looked at some of that stuff but it fades (aparently very quickly) with UV light (ie. ok for shop signs in shade, but not for cars so much)

Aspired has sourced some actual 'adhesive chrome' from the sounds of his posts, a different material and we're hoping it WON'T fade like the chrome mylar you get from sign shops...

Could always try it! my sign-guy may be wrong ;-)

or ur guy may have different stuff...

Well its been very hot with high UV rating all week and the cars been out in full sunlight so the chrome is getting a good workout.

I do currently have the chrome on, but it should really be done again.

Have most of you guys opted to vinyl the front bumper yourselves or just replace it with a different piece. I'm just curious, cause I ordered the Mitsubishi option to have it vinyled and 'm just wondering if looks as good as the custom ones. (car wont be ready for another week

so I'm not gonna get a chance to see it before I pick it up)

The OEM one looks alright, but the biggest issue with it is that it doesn't quite fit properly.

I don't have my bumper blacked out, but I have read on here that a few people who opted for the factory option ripped it off and redid it themselves.

If it is still a week away, I would see if you can change to a different option and do it yourself.

yeah, it's $30 wasted in most ppl's opinion... doesn't quite come to the edges.

It's probably more noticable in person but if you look at this pic (close-up = go to my garage) you can see how it doesn't quite come to the edges...
