OBDII and the CJ

Postby znelbok » Fri Aug 15, 2008 1:52 pm

Has anyone got an OBDII cable yet for the CJ?

If so what [software] are you using it with?

I bought one from Evoscan, its an ELM327 USB adapter. I am using it with one of the demo packages that comae with the driver because Evoscan does not support the ELM327 yet.

Looks like no one has plugged their PC into a CJ yet.

No matter, I'll keep this updated as I make progress.

You can see all the data from the ECU.

The other day I was watching the inlet temp to get a feel for how the engine temp affects it and I am keen to see what the temp drops to when a CAI goes on.

Take a look at Evoscan (http://www.limitless.co.nz/) for more info on what it can offer.

There are many other ODBII apps out there, but Evoscan seems to be the best as it uses the higher data tx rate available from the Mitsubishi

may be late... but better late then never... its OBDII btw, not ODB ;)

TACTRIX.com has them... $189 for the full set.

OpenPort 2.0, OBD II protocols are all supported. and... the CJ's CAN bus 2.0 is also supported with the harness...

I just downloaded EcuFlash today, playing around with an X rom, getting used to it. Pretty good stuff. Your Lancer will be identical to the Evo's rom, except one compensates for boost, and one doesnt...

You'll have to wait for a proper OpenEcu, the current 1.40 is a beta. Though, if you know your stuff, you can do a re-flash. PM me if you need help ;)

Sweet... ;)

still, gonna be hard to find a tuner in NSW that would be willing to tune EcuFlash. 90% of the dyno workshops know how to use it, they just wont since theres no licensing fees. cheap bastards...

i highly recommend EcuFlash though... cause after you have it Dyno Tuned... you can work on the tuning yourself everytime you add a new mod, with a laptop, some coffee, and lots of research...

happy tuning!

Do you need a car pc to run Evoscan ?

This looks cool:
http://www.blitzperformancesales.com/pr ... vitds.html

But it says its for Toyota and Nissan, anyone one if theres one like this for the Lancer ?

Would be cool to have it running on the MMCS screen.

Heres a couple of videos..

Or maybe something like the Magden is needed:

The magden actually looks pretty good.

With regards to EvoScan, it doesn't read too much from the regular CJ range. I have tried. Also, it requires the Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 cable, about $180.

You don't nessicarily need a car PC, but you need to run the EvoScan program on a laptop, or portable tablet etc and a car PC is just an integrated one. I just used my Macbook Pro, but I used the Windows Vista I have on it, not the Mac OSX, as I don't believe there is a OSX version of EvoScan, let alone many other data logging programs.

Talk to Speedie, as he runs a car PC with EvoScan I believe, in his RA. He may have got more out of it than I did. I only got RPM and a couple of other things of no use. But most of the other data was inaccurate.

So what I did was just bought a cheap ($40 or $50 from memory) ebay OBD reader, and it came with some different software programs to try out. i managed to get one of them to display a fair bit of info, from RPM, speed and load to accelerator position, coolant temperature and intake temperature. Now they all seem to be pretty spot on.

So the cheap ebay OBD reader works better than the Tactrix on in our CJs. But the Tactrix Cable doesn't work with much else, and EvoScan only works on Tactrix Cables. Bugger.

Perhaps Speedie has worked out the proper CAN-Address and multipliers for his to work on his RA? I couldn't find them on the net myself.

As for the Magden, I believe that does not work with the newer vehicles like ours, but it might be a thing you will need to ask the makers of it.

Hope that helps. (I can provide a link to the smae OBD reader I bought if you are interested in that.)
