Mobile speed cameras - New model spotted

Hey all.... Just thought I'd let you all know I saw a new mobile speed camera on the Bruce Hwy this morning - Northside.

Keep an eye out for a White Mitsubishi Pajero... I've seen Land Cruisers and the usual Merc Vito vans, but I had not seen the Pajero used before.

Probably based out of the Deception Bay cop shop.

Speed checks keep us within the limit, but I hardly see any of those. Speed is money. They want speeding.

Normally they hide them or at least try to hide them

We have units in NSW which when set up check your speed and rego status as you drive past and another 200m down the road you get pinched if anything is out of date or you were speeding. Maybe you guys have those as well now? They don't hide the unit.

I've never seen one but the boss was talking about this the other week, they did it in Adamstown and apparently had a whole heap (100+) get done in the first hour..

They've run them along Industrial Drive in Newcastle a few times and the New England Highway I have seen them too. Amazing technology that can read a numberplate, scan a database and communicate to the Highway Patrol waiting for you down the road with plenty of time to step out and wave you over.

I am all for getting unregistered cars off the road. Unregistered = uninsured and none of us want to have that hassle.

VE Commodore SV6 Sportwagon unmarked
Ralliart Sedan unmarked
Honda Civic unmarked

And a "What the...?" one:

Unmarked Toyota Prado 4X4 towing a horse float... He had somebody pulled over, LEDs flashing on dashboard. Had to double-take lo;

Towing a Horse Float...!!? What the....? Indeed !!! lolz....

Up on the Northside, I've seen a Black Ralliart trotting around, and a gold Golf GTI... Most of them still use Falcon XR8's, SS Commodores or Camry Sportivo's - but I have also seen a Black XR8 Ute on the Gateway Mtwy.

There is also a Blue SS Commodore with V8 Supercar personalised plates pulling people up on the Southside around Logan/Nathan....
