I might send one of the mods a CBA email about card skimmers on ATMs so they can post it up

Australia, being a first-world leading nation, is rarely the first to commonly introduce fight-back technology...

Like any of us can afford to have our accounts cleaned out!

Introduce the chipped-cards NOW !!!!

Ive never heard of chipped cards before, how do they work?

I have two mates who have had money stolen from their accounts, $181 and $90. One hadn't even used his card in 8 months! Have no idea how these crims do it

I dont know how they work, I'd imagine something like how a phones SIM card would work, i'll do a bit of googling on it :P

Chip technology is the next evolution of electronic payments in Canada, helping to make an already safe card payment system even more secure.

Over the next few years RBC Royal Bank® and the Canadian payment card industry will introduce chip and PIN technology for all personal and business debit and credit cards.

Already in wide use around the world, this state-of-the art technology provides enhanced protection for you against counterfeiting and card fraud because the embedded microchip is encrypted and virtually impossible to replicate.

While magnetic stripe technology is extremely secure, chip cards and chip card terminals work together to make a highly secure transaction system even MORE secure by electronically validating both the card and the cardholder. Used in combination with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for transaction authorization (as you do today) your Chip Client Card will provide you with an even higher level of security and peace of mind.

yeah, damn crims are sneaky!

These are widely used now. Major banks and credit unions have these cards available now.

I've seen so many working at the restaurant, we had to change our device as well to cater. Now if the card has a chip, the card reader/EFTPOS machine will only read the chip, not the magnetic strip. If I swipe the magnetic strip, it says Remove card - insert chip. There is still a manual override though (type the numbers as always). I've also had to start asking for PIN or signature, seeing as it's still optional to put a PIN on the chip cards.

I reckon these are brilliant, and you should see them soon. Surprised that WA hasn't seen many yet.
