The standard orange interior lights

The good old lights behind your aircon controls, cd player/mmcs buttons and steering wheel controls.

Has anyone attempted to change these to another colour? when I was test driving the Lancer I asked the dealer, he wasn't too sure but said it could be possible but it would be a pain to do.

I might give it a go one day to see if it is possible to change these, I did it in my magna but that was set up a lot differently..

I would assume T5 bulbs would be used for these sorts of things, but behind the steering wheels buttons I dont see how they would fit!

Anyone got any info? I'll also post up what I discover when I try it

yes i have !!!
these are an ad on LED i have two facing the instrument cluster on the dash.
you can get them from an auto shop they are called "type S" blue LED dash lights.
and i wired my own two LED lights for the middle console.

Hey Oz,

I saw that mod and it looks awesome but I was thinking more along the lines of replacing the orange lights rather than adding additional blue ones, sort of like the very bottom left in the second

I actually just attempted to remove the dash to see if i could find out what type of bulbs or LED's or whatever they are. I couldnt get that air conditioner trim off to actually see. I didnt want to break anyting just in case i missed something like a screw or clip or something. Sorry man, i was really curious about this myself. If you do do it, id really like to change it aswell

Yeah, the last thing I want to do is break my dash!

I think you need to take the console apart between the seats to unscrew the parts under the aircon to get it off, but I'm still not 100% sure. I'll give it a go when I get home, I have about an hour of light left before it's dark

If I manage to change them I'll write up a DIY aswell and let you know

I recorded everything i did...I can speed it up to like 4x and put it on youtube if you like?

ohh did you manage to get it off? I saw the vid of the audio part just then at 4x speed if that's the one you mean

I have the carbon fibre dealer accessory covering my aircon so I might also need to take that off but it probably won't stick back on properly :\ the gear shift one is starting to lose it's stickiness - but I'll bring that up at my 15k service

nah nah nah, i tried to get the air con part of the dash off today. I couldnt get that part off. You have to take the audio part off to get the air con bit off anyway since their 2 screws holding it on as far as i can see. I might check through the dealership service manuals to see if i can find anything.

Ohh okay. Does that mean I'd need to take MMCS out, or just the bit beneath it?

This sounds like more of a weekend job so I don't run out of time

nah you will just need to remove the fascia plate itself. when you remove the fascia you will see 2 screws holding on the lower part of the air conditioner fascia. I took out the transmission cover thingy to see if there was anything down there that looked like it was attached, there was screws down there but they didnt seem attached to the air con fascia plate

Picture died Tadz.

To remove the AC control panel, its a real PITA.

The sides of the center console have to come off too. And I can tell you every light is LED. Including those ones that shine down into the "waller holder" below the AC controls.

SMD LEDs too, so a b***h to de-solder and resolder new ones.

Don't even bother trying dude. Seriously. You'll break something.

Didn't see this post, tried it and indeed I broke something, I am so annoyed right now...... :evil:

Do you know how much it costs to replace this and have it installed?
