Fair enough Tadzorz, the military isn't for everyone. I have been doing it for 20 years and own a 2 bedder Sydney flat at Drummoyne and a 4 bedder in Toowoomba, not as good as the aforementioned option, but an honest living.

just crunching the numbers...

Ive discussed with my employer, if i left school and worked full time i would recieve a pay increase. Ill call it about $15p/h X 8.5 hours a day. Which is about $120. $120 x 5 days = $600. $600 x 4 weeks = $2400. $2400 would be more than enough to sustain myself comfortabley every month yeah?

Thats at my current employment. Crunching the numbers id be earning more than i thought...See this is the issue im facing...leave school and might regret it for the rest of my life or take the money and get into automotive at a later stage. Like i dont know if that pay would be more because of award wages or something but yeah.

But if you think about it...If i left school...How many 17 year olds would be out working full time and be able to support themselves and thensome...

Listen bra. If u love wat u do, u wont care about the cash. If ur get at wat u do u will get rich no matter wat ur field. Trust me on this. Pick wat u really love, the money will follow...

That is quite true, I work behind a computer all day.. it pays the bills well, but look at my hobby, I rebuild bikes (wishing sometimes I was a mechanic!!!!)

Just be happy. Least you have a CJ!

Thanks M@v =). Cash aint as important. I just wanna make sure im able to pay my bills and have a bit of spare cash on the side to know i dont have to worry about not having it. I mean, if its $100 extra on the side id be happy

Working in the automotive industry would have the advantage of increasing your fitness levels while you work, rather than sitting at a desk all day and then having to go home and work out for 3hrs to achieve the same results - trust me it gets a bit annoying sometimes.

If you do decide on something automotive I would suggest going for a more specialised area. My bf is a trade qualifed engine reconditioner working as a cylinder head reconditioner and he earns quite a bit more than a normal servicing mechanic and also gets a company vehicle. One of his friends is a diesel mechanic and he earns good money aswell but it does involve him working night shifts sometimes, but that mite just be related to the company he works for. Both of their wages are however under $1000 take home per week so still not spectactular.

Automotive sales & sales in general certainly provides the opportunity to make more money than this due to commissions but your base salary mite be a bit low, just depends on whether or not you have the gift of being able to communicate/click with all types of customers.

IMO if you love what you do and are never willing to give up you will succeed no matter what qualifications or level of education you have achieved.

Ive been doing retail work for about a year n a half now, and its not that i dont like it its the fact that im selling stuff that im slowly losing intrest in...

+ the fitness aspect is good...Im lanky as all hell

It's generally less than $1000, his base wage is around the $750 mark but if he does overtime than it is between $750-$1000. I know that probably sounds like decent money compared to what your on now, but the reason I said it wasn't spectacular is because that is really the highest wage he can get and when when youv'e been working for 20 years this mite not seem so great compared to wat other ppl his age are on.

Also, once you've been on a certain wage for a whille with no chance for progression to a higer wage dissatisfaction can set in, it certainly has with me atm, so IMO opportnities for career progression and income increases throughout your working life are also very important to keep you motivated to do what you do.

Apprentice wages suck, but I'm a 4th year apprentice, bees knob off a tradey, and I own my own place (have had it for over 2 years now), and drive a VRX comfortably

Tadz you forgot about Tax in your workings which to be safe use 22%. I would stay at school its almost over anyway, and having year 12 opens more doors then working a year in retail. And the best job to get is one your happy in.

i reckon having education gives a huge advantage over having nothing , so my suggestion would be stay in school.

Although you won't be earning as much money now, you'll be progressing faster later on after you've graduate.

It's like looking to a further and brighter future rather than just earning money for each day as you go.

get some experience while you're studying.. it will help a lot after you graduated.. it will make it a lot easier finding a job with both the paper and experience..

if you wana be a tradey (its the way to go these days) apprenticeships are the way to go, means bad money for a few years but the experience is there (depending on who you work for). ask around for some work experience on school holidays on your own time, may be a pain but it might benefit you never know.

If you really want to leave school and get a job thats fine, but i think you should see if you can take 2 days a week off work and go to TAFE and get your HSC. im sure your boss (if he is a good one) will let you, your earning more than doing it after school and weekends + still getting your HSC. adn maybe the boss will pay your TAFE Fees also.

i know a few people who have done this, left school in year 10 went to TAFE 2 days a week to do his HSC and worked the rest of the time and he is well off now. owns 2 houses (rents one) Family with 2 kids and 3 cars, all at the age of 25.

what i end up doing was goin to yr 10 and left high school. i started doing motor mechanics but got 6 months into ii and thought it was to hard for thr $$$. So i came across to parts, yea i sit in front of a computer for a large part of the day but i got no ever part on ever car i deal with and parts have got places to go like parts rep which depending on whats on your contrack you could get car phone fuel. Become a good rep and go to golf days, drive days, car launch parts which i got 1 on the 24th for the new outlander and triton. Good thing about motor mechanics is tho you can do cash jobs on the week end. i no a few mechanics that get more ona sat and 1/2 day sun then they do all week at a dealer. so yea keep that in mind, feel free to pm me if you want
