Touch up paint - champagne metallic colour

Postby exaltd » Sat Aug 08, 2009 2:37 am

Hi guys,

Just wondering, where can i get some good quality touch up paint that 100% matches the metallic champagne colour i have? And how much will it cost?

After washing my car and stuff i found a couple of spots that were down to exposed metal (don't know how...) around the rear windscreen and boot. Weird huh?

Also, can anyone help/tell me how to apply those properly to make it look nice? Otherwise i think i'll be doing the shonky Asian job of just using a paintbrush  They are only small little spots btw.

Thanks!

Have a look on your passenger side door, and get your paint code colour. I think we have a thread on here by josh_emerton who listed all the paint code colours but i cant seem to find it...

Anywway, Hit up your local mitsubishi dealer and go to their spareparts office and you should be able to pick up a small touch up bottle of paint for around $10-$15. Only thing that i dont like about the touch up paint, its a bottle with a brush. Most of the chips on my car are little specs or thin scratches. When touching up mine i usally have to paint a long line of touch up paint then use my fingernail to get rid of the excess touch up paint around the scratch. It would make it so much easier if they just put the touch up paint in a pen or something.

Hope that answers your question =)

You can even get these touch-up paints from eBay, I have the same S18 sand beige colour as yours, I bought my paint from eBay at $10, plus $2.5 delivery... not so much for savings but convenience. I live a ways from the dealer...

Agree with Tadzorz, use another implement if you have to, or do what I do and cut the tiniest hole from a piece of paper, align that to your chip and paint with the brush. The paper takes most of the over-wipe....

Good luck (nice colour car mate!)

Also, a nice little tip I learnt from an expert:

Don't paint it all at once. What I mean is the scratch is say 0.5mm deep, but over 3 or 4 coats, build up the thickness of the touch-up paint. So 1 coat, wait a day, next coat wait a day etc

That way you will never notice it.

Don't forget you can also get the official Mitsu touch up paint through me from our site sponsor Preston Motors.

Your color is the cheapest of all the colors:

Yup, I think you're right, may have to be the cherry on top of a bigger cake!

In addition to the topic at hand, you can also have pressure packs made up to the colour code at some good automotive paint suppliers... but because we have a metallic, laying over small areas can look really bad (hence a full door spray is better than a spot repair).
