Rear Parking Sensors

Postby Aspired » Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:16 am

Where are your rear sensors fitted on your bar ?
I noticed them fitted at the top of the bar in this pic:
Perhaps its due to the tow bar ?

Mine are fitted at the bottom of the bar, you can see one here

So where should they be fitted ?
Does it make a difference ?

Ideal height is said to be between 450mm and 550mm off the ground. That puts them at the top like your first picture.

It does not really matter, they still will work!

But like in my case, it gets in the way of me putting a rear diffuser.

OEM mount holes are lower down like in your last pic of the black car.

Chances are they didn't fit the genuine sensor on your car.

My dealer is a scum bag and fitted cheap aftermarkert ones in the same locations as yours.

My car is the black one, the top white car belongs to another clubcj member.

Most dealers now are actually shunning away from using OEM Reverse sensors in an attempt to cut costs. The ones mounted lower are the OEM ones apparently.

Anyhow, I do wonder if I can raise a case against MMA for advising dealers to mount them there if the OEM rear diffuser will actually cover them.

The reason the OEM ones seem to be down low, is the template provided with them have them in place down the bottom. The aftermarket ones do not include a template, therefore the easiest spot to measure and fit is the top part.

That's what I figured anyway.

Here's where I mounted mine:

I've got a mate that is contracted by many dealers to install reverse sensors & cameras etc & can tell you that he doesn't use OEM accessories for the many years he's been doing it.

Thats not to say he's dodgy, far from it. Works on some high end cars & dealers are always keeping him busy.

You know dealer fitted options... low cost, high margins. :P

MMA thought about it... there's 2 options available - You can have the diffuser, named the "I CAN drive" look, or the reverse sensors for the "I CAN'T drive" look :-P

I'm sorry - just gotta have a dig, for all us Jedi knights out there who reverse in with only 'the power of the force' ;-)

(I see ur dillema ofey - I'd b peeved myself too...)

You mean all those with reverse sensors that get cheaper insurance because they have the "less likely they'll back into things" look.

gotta remember it's just a look :-P
Parently they're fairly half-assed when coming up to a fence or tree or anything that's not like a "solid wall"...
Hate to trust it one day and end up through a cyclone fence or something - then you'd have the "oh bum! - my sensors indicate; I stuffed up!" look :-P

I had NO IDEA about the insurance difference tho - how much less? like $5 a year? cos if over 10 years the savings pay for themselves, I might have to get me some for the insurance savings - lol :-)

It's minimal - I was more taking the piss.... from memory it was a bit under $7 per year saving... So at $300 -odd for the gear, it will take a while to pay itself off in insurance savings!
