I don't expect the RA, let alone Evo to sip like a Colt even when driven with a light foot, but if it can be as frugal as possible, then it's appreciated. Even the Falcon itself is being tuned to be more economical, and the big 4.0 even managed below 7 litres/100 km during a cruise, not to mention its Commodore crushing performance.

Commonwhores and falcons always return low figures on the freeway, thats about the only time their motors even get close to being efficient. Hit the city though and they'll drink the petrol if you even think of pushing it. Commonwhore crushing performance form a Falcon?? The FG XR6 and the VE SV6 are more or less the same 0-100kph runs. The VF is rumoured to possibly see the introduction of direct injection for the Alloytec which should give it an extra 20kW or so.
the reduction in fuel consumption has moreso to do with the gear boxes, as you might have noticed they are now what a 5 or 6 speeder in the Falcon which helped the cut a decent amount of their fuel use.

The SV6 has the same power as the XR6, but the latter has more torque and the Holden's 5-speed auto isn't a match to the Ford's ZF. It's about time they employ direct injection and scrap the obsolete 4-speed auto and anaemic engine in the lower models.
I'd still stick with a Ralliart if I had that much money at my disposal.

City driving (weekends), ave of about 9-10 L/100km.
cold starts in gippsland: 89L/100km, haha. after engine warms up, i get about 9L/100km. this is a 12km drive to work from traralgon, mind you,.

One thing I'm trying to develop myself to help in economy has something to do with stop lights. If I anticipate that the lights are to turn red or will take a while to go green again, I step off the accelerator, let the car roll with a bit of brake tapping when necessary. As much as possible, I try not to do a full stop, so I'd slow down a bit and when the lights turn green, I don't have to build speed from naught, because this uses a lot of fuel.
Of course this method requires some caution, like checking the car behind you and stuff.
