My friend bought a car a few months ago.
1994 Toyota Celica (ZR) with 170,000km on the clock.
4 speed auto gearbox.
NA (No turbo) with completely stock engine.
He talks up his car, how fast it is, how he beats everyone taking off from the lights and that sort of stuff.
Now don't get me wrong I was happy for him, definately an upgrade from a Ford. He has planned all this and that he wants to do with his car and I've tried helping where i can, giving him advice and showing him sites etc. Never really get any appreciation but I dont mind since I'm only showing him how to go about getting stuff for his car.
Today he asks me for advice about stuff because his air intake filter box is broken and has a massive crack through it so for the meanwhile he has taped it up, I recommended that he try a Cold air intake and he asked me how, i suggested making his own or browsing toyota forums to see if there's any available for his car or even ebay and stuff.
he goes looking for stuff and decides he might try to make his own.
He then informs me he's going to spend $180 on a blow off valve for his NON TURBO car.
I ask him why he wants one for a NA car and how pointless it is. I even point out that people will most probably laugh at him when he shows it off (and trust me, he WOULD show it off every chance he gets). I tell him that it's a waste of money and even explain exactly how a BOV works (Thanks wikipedia for that extra bit of info ) he then informs me that this is for a turbo or 'standard car' so I ask him how it works and he gets angry and says "whatever" - didn't answer that question either for some reason.
He then starts insulting me and my Lancer and mods I've done to my car and my previous car and saying how stupid I am to have bought a NEW car for X amount of $$ including interest.
my response was simply
"FYI most of that difference is interest & it was my choice to buy a new car and I don't regret it"
then I decide I can't be bothered with arguing over something so stupid when i am trying to save him money and looking like an idiot, so i just tell him it could be worse and that I could be driving a NA 4spd auto "sports car" & block him.
He normally makes Lancer jokes (as jokes...I would think/hope) about how slow they are yet he's never driven one.
We have gone from 0-100km/h in a "mini-race" on a freeway (speed limit was 100..) and I won by a great margin, his excuse? wheelspin (BS, a chrip is not wheelspin) and he had it in "D".
I'm sick of stuff like this, I try helping him and he starts abusing me when I say it's not a good idea yet he always asks me for car advice.. Last time I EVER give him any advice about a car.. It's not like he's ever thanked me for any advice before anyway.
</end>
Sorry for typo's grammar or any other weird stuff, after this I was pretty angry, but I'm also at work (in an incoming call center) so typing has been interrupted a few times.

That's the good thing about friends. Unlike relatives, you can walk away and forget about them. He isn't worth your wrath. Go help those who are logical and willing to learn.

Speaking of intercoolers... I saw a CJ on evilbay a few weeks back when I was trawling looking for interesting parts... it was an ES with an intercooler!!! Why do people need to go and make fools of themselves.
It is any wonder people call others ricers!!!
I give up talking to the uninformed about cars now... you try and do the right thing and help them out and they don't respect your opinion... let him sink and learn the hard way!!!

inbound call center I dont make outbound calls lol + im tech support nto a sales person from the phillipines
yeah i'll let him do his own thing, he will more than probably get every gauge imaginable in his car.
The only gauge I really need is voltage gauge because I run extra electronics in my car. My mum (07 CJ ES) wanted a water temp gauge because the display on the dash wasn't clear enough but I accidently bought her an oil temp one, whoops.
