Possible MAF Sensor issue
Hi All
Wondering if any one has an idea on what might be happening to my car.
My issues happen when i drive for a bit and come up to a set of traffic lights, the revs drop down to around 500-530rpm and feels like the car is struggling but after a second or two it jumps back up to 600rpm and feels smooth. I plugged in my OBD2 tool and saw this happening on my phone in real time. Everything i have done to research points to the sensor possibly being the issue.
This started a few months back just after summer. First though it might have been the sudden change in weather or my car was just due for a service, which was actually done about a month ago anyways. Ended up taking my car in to Mitsi dealer to do its 90k service and mentioned it to them there and they advised that they "Cleaned air flow sensor, rechecked revs and all was ok". I did noticed after the service it was a lot better but now its popped up again.
Could my MAF sensor be the problem again? Would it be worth wild spraying it with some cleaner? Or should i be looking at something else?
Cheers

This can happen with a throttle body and it can also be in the ecu rom
Have you changed the throttle body at all?
Have you done any kind of ecu flash?

Re: Possible MAF Sensor issue
My cj vrx did a similar thing, was hunting idle at the lights - gave the MAF sensor a clean with the proper MAF sensor cleaning spray and also cleaned the throttle body and it sorted it out in no time.
this did happen after installing a K&N filter to replace the shitty paper on i had in there, i would wager some oil from the new filter ended up on the sensor causing the problem in my case.

Just about to reach 88,000. As mentioned i took it in about a month ago to do my 90k servicing. Not sure if that is part of the service im assuming it aint cause i had to tell them about the issue and they just cleaned out the sensor.

Yeah everything that i have read all leads to that, but thought i would ask the question before going off and assuming on my own.
Is there a specific spray for the throttle body or is a MAF spray sufficient enough?
Hmmm interesting. i did put a K&N HiFlow air filter and RA snorkel but that was almost 2 years now. Maybe your right, maybe its just taken this amount of time to cause an issue.

Re: Possible MAF Sensor issue
Oil impregnated filters give us no end of trouble with dirty airflow meters. The OEM filter is the same one used in Ralliarts and Evos so airflow for an NA engine should not be a problem

Re: Possible MAF Sensor issue
Yes there is a specific throttle body spray to use
It's called throttle body cleaner
My preference is Nulon
Don't forget K&N isn't the only manufacturer of reusable filter, Aeroflow make them also
Also when recoil the filter, there is no need to drown the filter in oil either
