NA Cj lancer heavy steering

Postby Snooze08 » Tue Aug 20, 2019 11:47 pm

Hey guys, a week after I got 17" inch roh rf3 with re003's steering sometimes goes heavy. When I'm stopped and move the wheel a bit it goes away. What could be the problem?

Was the vehicle designed to have anything bigger under it in the first place other then the stock 205/60R16 it came with from the factory?

Electric or hydraulic power steering? What tyre pressure are you using? Did you have a wheel alignment done after the new wheels were fitted?

Wheel alignment if it is incorrect will cause heavy steering and may casexthe vehil to pull to the left or right
It will also cause excess fuel consumption, and excess wear on your Tyres.
Having wider tyres then stock 205/60R16 will also cause the car to handle different and can make the steering feel heavy as well.
Feel free to drop by a few tyre shops eg Bob Jane, Jax , and any others.
Have a chat to them about what happens when you increase the size of the tyres on a vehicle.

Changing diameter and width will give you a different feel

For some light bed time reading, do some research on in sprung weight as well as gyroscopic forces on wheels and see what you discover

Add to the list camber and caster angle

You can go one step further and read about rake angle on motorcycles too if you have some spare time
Much to read and discoverer

Add to the list, wheel offset as well
