Yeah its great when a plan comes together.

I de-winged my VRX a few months back, still considering if it will go back on. Might even leave it off until after our trip in a few months. If I could find a clean boot lid in black with no wing holes.

Why not use your current wing and respray it a different colour ?
Or use some vinyl wrap and you can make it any colour of the rainbow

My goal was to paint the cutouts in the wing with more than plastic-dip but I like the no wing look and right now I want to test the fuel usage without it on the next trip.

Don't be too surprised if the wing makes zero difference to the fuel economy.
If your serious about fuel economy you need to get the basics right.
Check your tyre pressure all round.
Make sure the car has had a wheel alignment.
Make sure the air conditioning has been serviced.
Are the wheel bearing ok?
Any brake calipers getting stuck?
That's a starting point.
Then go nuts under the bonnet.
RA snorkel.
K&N air cleaner.
Wrap the radiator hoses in exhaust wrap.
Wrap the intake in gold heat reflection tape.

The exhaust wrap and gold reflection tape will be less then $100 to do the lot.
The biggest thing you can do is get the ECU tuned by Merlin.Tuning@gmail.com
The ECU tune from the factory is absolutely not helping you at all.
Use some decent fuel.
BP98 is magic kit.
I have been down this road and tried 98 fuel from just about everyone you can think of who sells 98.
BP is by far the best power and performance and fuel economy you can get as a 98 fuel.

Once those area are Covered , drop on some extractors , wrap them before hand , 2.25 inch system , 200 cell high flow cat.
You will absolutely reap the rewards.

Top it off with a 4G69 TB and I can assure you the power and fuel economy will be a lot better than your getting now

You have said before you get about 600kays to a tank
I can get about 1000 Kay's to a tank on BP98 on the highway.
It works. I know it does.
You don't need to do everything at once.
Do it piece by piece.
Also , any extra weight you don't need in the car , remove it eg a boot full of spare parts you bought last week

Keep the car service regular as well.
Believe it or not the tread pattern on your tyre will also effect your fuel economy as well.
Is your suspension ok? Is there a crook strut?
There is so many things that can and will effect your fuel economy.
Cover the basics and you can't go too far wrong

How did I not see you would bring up the TB conversion?

Yes I know what goes into your fuel economy and yes removing the wing that weighs next to nothing and has a neutral effect on drag, is probably not gonna do a thing. But with all things equal I just want to see if there is any notable difference.

Pointless using 98 in my stock Lancer, the whole point is to spend less on fuel, paying around 15cpl more is not gonna help unless you have the engine mods they support it and you're gonna use 10% less fuel.

The TB Conversion works and it works well for performance and economy and I make zero apologies for that to anyone.

The problem with paying less for fuel is the less distance traveled because of it.

Run a tank of fuel then change to a different fuel and run a tank of that and see the difference if any .

Remove the wiring first
Follow it back inside the boot
There is a few plugs to unclip
Reno those
Feed the wiring harness back
Pop the two clips that hold the gas struts to the boot lid
Remove 4 bolts
Off she cones

Trying to do the same boot swap as you, the built in reverse camera from later models. My only concern now is that the camera won't sync with my aftermarket head unit. It supports a reverse camera so I imagine it will be plug n play.

I gave up with the OEM reverse camera
Unless your lancer has the OEM wiring harness to suit to get the wiring to the front behind the header unit, then find something else.
If the vehicle does already have the OEM wiring your in business.
There is an adaptor harness you can buy to convert the OEM wiring to standard RCA output.
Otherwise
Do what I did
Remove the OEM camera from the boot lid
Replace it with a small unit similar in size
To fill the gaps use some foam and once it's all mounted in the boot
Run a small bit of clear silicon around the outside edge of the camera and the mounting from the outside to seal it against water.
Clean the silicon up with cotton buds
Use a very limited amount of silicon
Don't need much at all

The only issue I have with my after market rev cam is being down at the number plate level its very low and while better than no camera a higher mount would be better.

Ironically I damaged my bumper last year because I relied on the mirrors and didn't see a post dead centre of the car.
