USB interface socket
Has anyone purchased / installed one of these USB interface socket systems into the blank buttons on their dash?
If so would it ge easy for an electrician noob to do? Or would it be just better to get one of those dual 12v ubs plugs?
Appreciate your info. Thanks

Re: USB interface socket
I just installed a very similar one in behind my glovebox to power my dashcam. Super easy to install, and yeah, I agree, get the power from behind the cigarette lighter.

Re: USB interface socket
I got one similar 3 years ago and it works, but I have noticed only one of the USB ports (on mine) seems to have enough power for my iPhone. But it does work and is a great options to power up or charge a phone without having to plug something in the 12v socket.

Quick question where do you get that cover button thingy to replace the stock coin holder??? Are those off the Evo's?
wouldn't mind having a usb charger but would prefer it to be there instead of over at the drivers side door...

Re: USB interface socket
fairly sure they are off the RA or Evo.
stuff like this is pretty easy to install once you take a second and look at how you are going to do it. dont rush, i did that with a boost gauge on the project and it looks like arse

Yeah just found them online just didnt know what they were called, but you are right they are off the RA/EVO. Found the part numbers and the dummy buttons as well to fill in the rest of the holes.
Yeah sounds like a plan. Cheers for the info.

Re: USB interface socket
BTW I checked the USB ports on mine with a volt amp tester I got on eBay and found yes only of my ports is not working
Doesn't really matter as I usually only have one device plugged into it at a time. I'll need to check the wiring to see if I can unplug it, can't remember how its wired in.

Re: USB interface socket
Usually they are 3.1A for the 2 ports - 1 2.1A and 1 1.0A. (There are newer one with Quick Charge 3.0 with up to 2.4A dual ports).
Looks like the 2.1A port is not working and you got only the 1.0A.
For sure will take a long time to charge up anything with 1.0A.

Re: USB interface socket
Okay ripped out the panel and checked the wiring. should be able to just unplug mine to swap it for a new one.
Checked on eBay and I noticed some have volt meters (for the car) built in but I can't find one that fits this style of switch hole for the Mitsubishi.

Re: USB interface socket
Just ordered this one on Aliexpress, less than $20.
Will take a few weeks to get here and will see how it goes then.

Re: USB interface socket
Can't wait for my new one, should just plug right in.
Just choose the right lead, you need something low profile with flex, especially if you drive a manual, don't need the USB lead getting in the way of a gear change. Still a great solution when traveling and someone needs to charge their phone. Oh also make sure the lead is long enough, just in case they want to take photos while driving, not the driver.
