Found these while searching around hoping to get lucky. Got to scroll down a little to see the lights.
Got so close to finding something yet so far.

Yeah I was thinking that too, kind of a shame really. Not only that can't really take my car to the US for just lights.

Re: Sportback taillights, So close.
Using readily available ADR approved LED lights and a bit of fibreglass work you could possibly make yourself a custom set similar, you would need to get it certified of course to keep the trigger happy inspectors calm...
Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of work and money involved, but companies like HELLA and NARVA make Combination lamps and Stop Tail lamps that are all ADR approved, so it isn't impossible, just time consuming, and expensive, but would be a one of a kind sports back Lancer

If I had the Know how, time and money for it. I definitely would give this a shot.
Would be pretty cool having a One of a kind tail light

Yeah I know, unfortunate that they were a one off, but there's plenty you can do with the tail lights in the hatch back if you're creative enough

Twas thnking,
Anyone retro-adjusted or whatever the word is to their sportback tail lights?
Like you can get the custom halos and stuff for headlights, surely you could get the tail lghts blacked out??

You can blackout any tail light or indicators you wish
Doesn't mean it is legal to do and nor is it either nor does it make anyone elses life behind you easier to see your tail lights and increasing your risk of being in an accident and no doubt when the insurance companies find out your tail lights are blacked out you will be left high and dry.

Not as in nite shades, but getting a retro fitter to adjust the tail lights, eg like led everything, the sequential indicator (like the flowing looking type on golfs) and then blacking out the tail lights from the inside

True...
how would you get it approved? Or is it legally impossible?

Re: Sportback taillights, So close.
To get approval it would have to satisfy all the criteria of the ADR (and this is a book about 4 inches thick), and be certified by an engineer or other ADR compliant certifier, and local authorities, all in all a possibly very expensive exercise. Back home custom car builders (mainly hot rod enthusiasts), can do just about anything, but I am pretty sure there is special categories the car needs to be registered under. and as long as it complies with lighting laws and is certified by an LVVTA certifier, you're usually okay with the local constabulary. I don't see why it can not be done, it just may take time finding the right people to talk to who can help with what you're trying to achieve.
