Smoked Light?

Postby SidwickTheSloth » Thu Oct 19, 2017 6:36 am

Don't know much about modification laws. I'm in nsw and was wondering what the laws are with smoking my factory tail lights and indicators? Would it be legal if I just nightshaded them?

Check it out for yourself at the local department of transport web site. If cant find nothing look at australia design regulations or walk into your nearest transport department
I went thru this a few weeks ago in queensland and discovered that carbon fiber bonnet are legal in qld.
I very much doubt however that smoked tail lights are legal anywhere australia wide

You can get defected for tinted tail lamps. Also if you happen to get rear ended insurance may be a problem.

It really depends on how dark you go, I gave mine a light coat of nite shade and yes I admit without being side-by-side with another CJ you probably not spot the change but its enough to make a difference and the lights are still visible and legal. Locally (QLD) I have seen some that are way over done and just crying out for a defect notice. You'd be battling to see them at night.

They are a defect in NSW which is where Sidwick lives.

I had a gut feeling you would get pinged for dark tail lights

Question --> im thinking of tinting the outside edging of my tail lights, like on the red edging around the tail lights but not the lights themselves, if you know what i mean

would this still cause issues with the insurance and stuff?

Im willing to place bets that *any* kind of tinting on the tail lights is illigal
If i were you i would forget about making any mods to the lights what so ever on the vehicle

Good opt, was just contemplating considering the light output wouldn't be effective. i would imagine it would be the same concept as getting those chrome strips that go over the edging of tail-lights like this
