Probably at some point, right now I've got the screen set to turn off after 1 minute...
So here are a couple of screen shoots of the low or high mount options.
I like this because the DC is out of the way from the drivers POV but not a good POV for the camea.
This is probably better, much clearer shot of the road behind!
Voting is open LOL what do we thing of the mounting options?

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Mount it up high above the rear wing so u have a fighting chance off seeing whats coming to rear end you. Sounds bad i know.but if it ever happens you better off with a good clear view to hand to a solicitor or lawyer

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Noted Re: turning camera on and off, If power is cut off completely. Wouldn't that throw date and time out?
Or is that handled internally, by a battery specifically for that purpose?

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Typically devices like these have whats called an RTC (Real-Time Clock) on-board which uses a small battery to power a crystal that keeps track of time even when the main power is off

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
The rear one is my old Kaiser Baas R10+, this has a built in battery so will power it for a short time after the power is turned off. The new front is a Kaiser Baas R40 with a capacitor that gives it a little power to safely turn off when I turn the car off, but it also has GPS so no need to get the time/date.
I agree the high mount is the better option and you really don't notice it after a few minutes, I'll try and take some better photos of the position tomorrow. Best thing is with the privacy glass you can barely see it from outside. When down to the Gold Coast hinterland today, 400km round trip and it works great, only problem is people doing 40 on a nice twisty bit with a 60 limit!

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Some models have privacy glass, mine is a VRX with darker back window and with rear side glass.

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
I have seen a shark fine rear camera but it looks a little bulky for my liking and not sure how it would record what it sees, maybe its just for parking? But it is an ideal location for a camera to catch everything.
Only interesting thing I saw with the rear one was someone carrying a mattress on the roof over there SUV with one rope, so the front as bent up like a banana shame they turned off before a 80kph section of road

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Did they have roof racks on the car ir did they wind the windows down a bit and tie it to the roof and feed the rope thru the windows then climb into the car like the duke boys did with the general lee?

Re: Hardwire & Rear Dash Camera?
Yeah, I would vote the higher placement for camera (not sure if voting is still open) as that way you should clearly get number plate details, etc. in the event of running into an idiot (or more so, an idiot running into you )

You can buy the film to DIY from Autobahn. If your game enough to install it yourself.
Better alternative, there are a number of places that will install it. Had mine done, a year ago,
Four side windows and rear window. Very pleased with the results. I think it was for $260

I'll have to check the video but I didn't see a roof rack or ski rails in my mirrors. Either way it wasn't tied on well and should have had a 2nd rope on the front.
