Folded back seat max load

Postby cesar1999 » Sun Sep 18, 2016 8:35 pm

Hi guys,

I'm moving house soon and will probably need to load two long, heavy counter tops into my car. They will go in from the boot, extending to the rear passenger seats (folded down) and rest mainly on the back of the rear seats. Total weight of about 40kg.

Will the back plate of the rear seats be able to handle that weight?

Cheers,
Cesar

Though I don't know the exact weights but I had all four of my wheels + tyres stacked across my rear back seats (while folded down) and one in the boot. Didn't have an issue and there is a fair amount of weight in those. I personally do not think you should have an issue.

I have an 08 ES CJ but I don't think there is a difference between the seats if you have a different model.

Goodluck with the move.

Thanks Stevie for the information.
Anyway I just put it here for reference in the future if anyone ever needs it.

The metal backplate of the rear seats doesn't like hard edges and will leave a dent if you hit it with a heavy object like a counter top. It does hold up fine to around 80kg (my load when I moved house).
