CJ Car Theives

Postby Biggles69 » Wed Sep 07, 2016 10:06 pm

Does anyone know if CJ Lancers are easy to steal? we have 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer CJ MY10 and earlier today my daughter interrupted some dodgy men parked in our driveway that were nosing around our car in our car port!!! one of them said watch out for the girl and they took off. its only a ES but it has a body kit and metallic red pain so looks like flasher than it is.

They may be able to get into your car, but without the keys they shouldn't be able to start and drive the car away. Make sure the keys are in a safe place and it'll make it hard for them to take it, if they are determined though they will find a way to get it, but more than likely they will only go as far as trying to get your keys

Its getting to a stage we need security cameras in the garage to catch or deter would be thieves.

IMO the biggest threat is not some one 'hot wiring' a modern car, it home invasions and carjackings to get the keys first. Never leave your keys in an easy to access place like the garage wall on a hook (right next to your car) or on a hallway table near the front door.

OK, thanks for the info guys that's reassuring that they would have issues without the keys. we will have to make sure they are hard to find and always take them with us if we go anywhere without the car.

We are not saying it's impossible for a CJ to be stolen without the keys, just unlikely your average thief would have the know how and tech to do it, those thieves usually target high end luxury cars so with the exception of an EVO MR I think most of us are safe.

I did see a report that the number one thing stopping a lot of car thieves is the humble manual transmission, many car thieves simply can't drive a manual and most cars targeted by thieves are more often now autos, or paddle shift with auto drive option at the push of a button.

Or the sound of the guy grinding the gears trying to find reverse lol

Best theft deterrent if you car going away for a few weeks, take out a few fuses or the battery, better still put it on stands and take off the wheels and store them at a friends.

mate, the condition my rims are in, I'd rather store the car at a mates and leave the rims behind for them!
