New Lancer Owner on the Gold Coast

Postby valkyria » Tue Aug 09, 2016 10:44 pm

Hello! I've probably been lurking on this forum for up to a year but only until earlier this year I got a 2011 2.4L Lancer VRX for my first car. This forum has been a great help in buying this car and knowing what to look for, but now I need a little help for mods.

I don't think I'm looking for any serious performance modifications but more so looking to distinguish my car visually. I've recently finished blacking out the nose and alloys which I like for now (until I might change my mind and get a set of wheels). At the moment I'm currently looking at getting an dual exhaust for my car to give it some growl but I figured it would look weird without the rear bumper/diffuser. So does anyone have any knowledge on exhausts and rear bumpers?
Happy driving everyone :)

Don't think you need a dual exhaust to get a good sound but if you want to do that then you may not need a whole new rear bumper. You can get just the lower part which changes the design to allow for duel outlets. Can't advise on specific workshops but get some quotes as custom made ones can be cheaper than ones built specifically for the CJ. Best advice is to shop around first and don't just at the first place you see.

Is the current exhaust stock?

Yeah, the current exhaust is the stock chrome tipped one. I know I could get the single exhaust and achieve similar results but I was planning on getting the rear bumper anyhow and figured it would be a bit odd looking if it allowed for two and I only had one. Also, big fan of your build, I've been following it for a while now!

Thanks, I would like a new rear with twin outlets also but right now can't justify the cost, got a nice after market tip so for now I'm happy with the sound and look.

Yeah it costs a fair bit, and I only have enough money for one modification at the moment so I want to make the right decision. Which aftermarket tip did you get?

Don't remember the name, just that I was lucky to see it at a muffler shop and it fits just right. This isn't the best pic but it give you an idea of how it looks.

Welcome!

Alan our state rep has a VRX with dual exhaust, he recently changed his bumper over also. I'll ask him to respond for you here.

I'd suggest save and get a good repeatable shop to do the work. Extreme Fabrications at Archerfield are great they did my custom 3" turbo back with XForce muffler and tips and its hands down the best thing I ever did to my car! They also did the exhaust on Sal's Twatty Evo. Seriously the guy can weld like a machine.

If you have warranty perhaps check with your service department on what they find acceptable or if they can recommend anyone closer to you.

Hopefully catch you soon at a meet :-)

Welcome

I also have a 2011 Vrx lancer which basically looks like a RA now as well I love having the dual exhaust however like jade said I would recommend getting a reputable place to do it for you as well remembering you need back pressure being an NA and also would recommend getting the rear bumper to suit the exhaust at the same time

While I don't have the money to do this I do have a plan on how.

1st I'd get a place I trust to do the work. I'd buy the bumper and get it professionally painted. Get the current tip cut off with a down pipe to blow the hot fumes down and away so when I fit the new bumper it's not gonna get in the way. Then lastly back to the muffler place for them to do their stuff.

What sort of back pressure do you need in a NA Lancer, mine currently has resonator in place of the muffler. Sound great and the performance is pretty good for a basically stock 2.4Lt.

I've been looking for a white ralliart back as that would be the easiest rear bumper add-on but unfortunately everyone else seems to have the same idea. The other ones I've found are:

http://marsperformance.com.au/Evolution ... edan-07-14

However I'm uncertain as to how high quality these parts are.
