Hey all, been lurking here for a while but this is my first post! Bought an 09 Lancer VRX (Red) in manual (not a fan of automatics) last August (2015) and absolutely love it!

Here it is 6 months or so after I bought it:

And here's some pictures after owning it for 2 years:

Current Mods:
So far I've done a couple of cheap mods (I'm pretty limited for funds being a university student). When I bought it, it already had a pod filter with a custom heat-resistant half-box replacing half the stock air box.
Other mods I've done since buying it are:
    >RM Williams Steering Wheel Cover (Old one was getting worn)
    >Gas bonnet struts
    >Red painted brake calipers
    >Android 10" Touch Screen Head Unit
    >Reverse camera
    >BC BR coilovers
    >OEM EvoX rear wing
    >Painted stock 18" VRX alloy rims black
    >Hardwired GPS and dashcam

Planned/Considered Mods:
    >Genuine Lancer scuff plates.
    >Whiteline swaybar link upgrade
    >New exhaust tip (current one has rust on the inside)
    >Mars Performance angel eyes/projector headlights

Expensive Desired Mods:
    >SuperCircuit 4-2-1 headers.
    >New rims
    >Merlin tune if he ever happens to be in Perth

Anyway, love the site, love my new car, and I'm glad to be here.

Welcome, the red VRX's are multiplying.
BC Racing Coilovers, 3in Turbo back Exhaust, Merlin Tune.

Once you go black, your endlessly cleaning that.

Yeah! Personally I wanted the blue, but couldn't find a VRX in blue, and got this one for a really good price. Still love the red, but whenever I see the blue VRX's I drool a little :P

Same with me wasnt keen on the red after owning an earlier CJ VRX in silver! Got this one cheap and was nearly brand new but the colour has grown on me, looks good when it is clean!

Yeah! Mine gets a wash and wax nearly every week (discovered Turtle Wax's rinse-free wash, makes it so much quicker and easier than using the hose :P). Looks great when clean, but when it gets a layer of dust over it, it's time for a wash :P

:welcome:

I'm much in the same boat as you. I'm a poor Uni student who bought myself an 09' VRX as well, Sportback in Silver. I personally love the red, looks good. I saw an awesome looking Orange VRX the other day too, I assume it had been resprayed as I've never seen any other lancers in that colour. Looked really nice.

How'd you go about doing the chrome outline on the front grill?
I've been looking at plastidipping the coloured portion that the plate is mounted to black. Much like the Newer VRXs. Not sure how it'd look though.

Anyway, welcome to the forum :)

The chrome moulding tape was $20 from Supercheap and looks pretty good. It was tricky around the lower corners, I could probably redo it, I think I have about half left. Ideally, the tape should be about twice the width to look more like the actual thing. Still, for $20 for 5m you can have a go and mess it up a number of times before even coming close to how much it would cost to buy the actual thing.

And yeah, I've been considering doing the bit behind the number plate in matte black too, but I think I actually like it in red. It's different to all the newer VRX's. If I can find some wider chrome tape, I'll redo it with that :)

Just did my brake calipers in red yesterday, the back calipers are a lot smaller than the front so I'll give it some time to see how I like it, might paint over them in black. The caliper paint is only $15 a can at SCA, surprisingly. Also discovered the centre inserts in the stock VRX rims can be taken out when the wheel is off, so painted them with some red CustomWrap. Will get pics up later today :)

Looks good, you wouldn't even know the difference unless you examined it up close.

but I think I actually like it in red. It's different to all the newer VRX's

That's the dilemma I have. I like it stock, but I also like it black, becasue Evo :P

Will get pics up later today

Look forward to it :)

So here's the pics of what I painted (calipers and centre insert of wheels. They look pink-ish in the pics, but they are proper red). Centre insert is custom wrap paint, calipers obviously proper caliper paint.

Also, a better pic of the chrome moulding on the front, and a closeup of the join. Don't try to cut the tape with cheap scissors, if you want a clean cut use something sharper :P
