What Shoes/Boots do you use for driving?

Postby Lancer1993 » Sat Feb 27, 2016 4:05 pm

Just wondering if others here have a favorite type or style of footwear when driving, not talking about around town or to work I mean long distance or if you're on a cruise or blasting down a nice twisty bit of road.

As we know some footwear is better than others and you can buy racing style boots for better pedal feel and control.

At work I wear slip-off steel caps so I drive barefoot usually (I tend to hit 2 pedals at once with them on). I think the nissan has more foot room than the CJ did so its more a habit than a necessity anymore.

Otherwise sneakers when its hot because my pedals get burning hot :P

Am I doing it wrong?

Puma Driftcats is my choice. They have a rounded heel and are good to walk around in when you get to where you are going.

I find flat-sole shoes like converse really good and comfortable for driving, esp for manual :)

I have some light steel cap boots, lace up which are a bit bulky, only wear them when needed as I have noticed sometimes in the CJ the toes touch the steering column shaft and you can feel it rubbing when parking, when the clutch is pushed in. Have some Dunlop sneakers form Kmart but they tend to hurt my ankles during longer trips, all hail the cruise control! so you can move you feet around when needed and not slow down.

Might get something better for the road trip where I'll be the only driver doing up to 800km a day on country roads!

How much are the proper driving boots and will they make me look like a cock when I stop at a road house in the middle on NSW?

I don't like driving too far without something on my feel, maybe to the shops if I'm lazy and just need a few things.

Note someone wears thongs?

Dangerous to wear loose fitting footwear that can accidently slip off and get tangled up in the foot well, brake peddle, clutch or accelerator. Can be scary and confusing, as happened to me. Without consequence thankfully.

EG: Try hitting your brakes with a shoo half hanging off your foot or right off and in the way of or behind, brake, clutch or accelerator peddles

If I have thongs on when moving the car or going down the shops to grab something I'll take them off and put them in the back, no point taking them off only to have them floating around the drivers foot well.
