I couldn't see any springs, I was viewing the video on my MOB.
Springs would aid in the initial kick-off at the point the boot release actually triggers, however they have to be the "Compression" type.
Tricky part is selecting the correct diameter, strength & most importantly length.
Good Luck, I think you're going to end up with quite a selection before you get it right. Iol.
It would of been helpful if the guy who posted the YouTube video showed a diagram with specs on it at the end of the video.
Oh Well, some people just leave me wondering !!!

If you're at least a little bit handy, you could modify the struts yourself. They're cheap enough that if you stuff it up, replacing them isn't a big deal. Here's what someone else did to get an auto open. Rather simple really.
Huge rubber washer that sits on the strut shaft, and a good spring. Pull the head off the shaft, add washer and spring, put head back on. Closing the boot will shorten the shaft, the washer will compress it when the body of the strut pushes against it. You release the boot, the spring does its thing.
It's what I'm planning to do to both my cars.
If you can't find a spring that's an exact fit like the guy in the link did, another rubber washer will do the trick. I'd probably use one anyways to protect against rubbing and whatnot.

Which is normal. Just means you have to get the right springs. I'd probably suggest a 'medium' spring rate. Means you can get a short spring, but it'd have enough power to kick the boot up past the gravity point and then the struts will open it the rest of the way. You only need them to give a bit of a 'kick' to things.
Edit: Or you could put a washer around the body, and JB Weld it (I will never suggest that you hot weld on a gas cylinder, bad things will happen) to make a base for a longer spring for higher compression.
If anyone wants to, they can send me a set of struts, and I can test that system out, making a base and working with various springs.

sleeper wrote:no mate, its a rubber stop probably to stop the boot vibrating left to right i guess, its oem. on the high pressure struts, no, that wont make any difference, the struts dont do anything till theyre at least 1/3rd of the way open.
No rubber stoppers on my 09 VRX.
Yeah what every that gy did pushes the boot open past the point so the struts do their stuff, some thing happens with the ones on my bonnet. The struts don't take affect until it's at least half open.
My solution is old school, I'll post when I have it on.
