Boot open without wing?

Just wondering if the CJs sedan boot opens higher without the VRX wing when you press the button, leaving more of a gap to get your finders under it?

With the VRX I use the wing to open it and some have found it heavy.

I know some have fitted after market gas struts and other things to get it open better but I just wonder does the wing make a difference?

I have a ES and today was looking at why the boot just opens barely enough for the fingers to get in.

I see your thinking with the spoiler - but not so, no spoiler, opens barely a finger width.

I'm interested in a solution if there is one?

its not really that heavy.
It opens enough to become ajar and I can slide my fingers there no problems.
once you lift it to a certain point it practically lifts off on its own.

Don't use the spoiler to oprn the boit. It will crack and break.
Yeah the spoiler does make it heavier but when I had my spoiler on my es boot I had no issues getting my fingers under the boot.

I don't have an issue with the boot being heavy and i have the VRX spoiler too! If you reckon ours are heavy go lift a BF XR6 boot with a spoiler then you will know what a heavy boot is!

I never have an issue with opening my boot, i always manage to get my fingers underneath and it is just something you get used to owning a CJ Lancer! Although I would never open the boot using the spoiler!

Maybe I have fat fingers but I can't get mine under there, the VRX spoiler is pretty solid so no issues with it coming loose or damaged.

There are some solutions which involve a spacer or springs but not seen these in person. Was thinking of going old school and putting a flat strap attached in the inside and having it sticking out the back, getto style.

The ideal (lazy) solution would be a boot that opened fully at the touch of the button :)

My spoiler cracked :( However it wasn't from opening the boot as the cracks were on the other side. It was supposed to be a genuine vrx spoiler so not really sure what caused it to crack. Might have been that my boot was too heavy for the struts and the closing it...who knows :(

I'm always careful closing the boot, hate when others 'drop' it.

I only asked the original Q as on my CC coupe it never came with a spoiler from the factory but had one fitted from new and once I took it off to repaint it and without it the lid sits up with maybe 20cm gap, with it on I've been caught out a few times driving along without realizing it's been popped.

I took the wing off my Evo and it still only opens enough to get my fingers under :)

I have a feeling it has to do with the gas strut on the boot that are not on older cars.

Still would be nice to find a workable fix to lift it a little higher on the CJ.

Opening with either the button on the key or the remote in the car opens boot lid just enough to get your fingers far enough to start to lift the boot lid.

This stays constant with or without a spoiler.

My current model MY15 ES Sport has a spoiler same as fitted to LXE plus I have added a lot more weight with sound deadening material to the lid and now besides getting a nice deep thud when the boot closes, the gap is still constant.

If your problem is serious enough and causing a real problem, you maybe, can fit a small spring to lift it a bit further. IE: as in petrol cap but naturally stronger!

Since my last post I've removed the spoiler to paint it... whole other story, check my thread. Anyway I agree because of the design of the hinge and strut it doesn't change. Would be nice if it opened fully like in the clip I posted earlier in this thread but I guess the issue then is accidental opening.

As it is now if you pull the floor leaver it will pop the boot but leave it closed so on the road you're not suddenly driving with an open boot!

I'm working on a solution for the gap issue, which I will post once sorted.

That video you posted of a Lancer boot lid opening fully seems to show a factory OEM set-up with no mods or added parts.
Except that the boot lid in that video actually works to fully open.
I'm thinking the solution is easier than anticipated.
The small Gas Struts fitted to the boot lid "Lift Hinge Linkage" are simple too weak.
The pressure in the Gas Struts is "Low"
I know that Gas Struts of "Good Quality" can be pressurized to higher pressure values.
I believe this is the solution, find a Reputable Gas Strut Seller & purchase 2 x same length struts pressurized to a higher Kpa value.

I think the video guy had fitted springs to one end of the struts, allowing it to spring open.

Higher gas pressure could help but not sure if they make them or what to look for when buying.

One of the first things I did was fit gas struts to my bonnet.
