We save the best for last and the Murwillumbah run is sure to please.

With a course that takes us up into the beautiful Gold Cost hinterland, down into the northern hills of New South Wales and out to a picturesque lake surrounded by mountains, this event has been among the most popular ones since QMD's humble origins.

The trip itself covers a bit over 100 kilometres from departure to destination and should take us around two to two and a half hours to complete. There's no shortage of sights along the way and there's always a quick stop just before the township of Murwillumbah for everyone to regroup if they've been held up by traffic and get a few photos.

Our meet-up point for the morning is at Firth Park, Mudgeeraba (Google maps location is LOT 42, Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba). There's a large car park and a group of football ovals there, so you can't miss it.

We'll need to be on the road bright and early for this one, so a 9:00AM meet and ABSOLUTE LATEST 9:30AM departure have been organised. If you're late and we've already left but you still want to come along, simply follow the route (https://goo.gl/maps/zk4Dh) to our destination and meet us there.

As usual, QMD will be putting on a barbecue lunch with plenty of food and drinks. All we ask is that people pitch in a bit of cash to cover what they've had throughout the day. If you have special dietary requirements (gluten free, nothing from certain animals/plants), please let us know so that we can arrange an alternative for you. There's nothing worse than having to watch other people eat because you can't have anything that's there.

What you will need to bring:
- A full tank of fuel
- Current and valid drivers license (make sure it's valid for the car you're driving)
- UHF radio (channel 17)
- Picnic blanket or chair (there's seating there but as this is a popular run, we may not have enough room for bums at the tables)
- Some cash for lunch/drinks

Everyone is welcome to come along, so bring some friends and make some new ones! It doesn't matter what you drive, as long as it isn't falling apart or poses a risk to other drivers. If you have anyone interested in coming along but they aren't sure about it, we've put the details of this event up over a month in advance for people to finalise anything with work or family (or just bring them along as well) so that they're free to enjoy the day out.

Bring along anything that you'd like to show/play with during the day, like kites, RC cars or even a rocketry set! We've had tons of fun with things like this in the past and spending time with like-minded people is a great way to break the ice.

*** Be mindful that the chosen route has some very tight corners on both the uphill and downhill sections. If you don't feel comfortable driving along these kinds of roads, QMD encourages you to ride along with someone who is (some of us are happy to take passengers), or take it nice and easy and stick to the back of the group where others will be doing the same. Our events are not races and we'd like to remind anyone thinking about coming along that while we're okay with you having fun, we don't want you to end up having your pride and joy winched out of an embankment. Drive to you and your car's ability - not the ability of those in front of you.
