Floppy aircon vent

On my Lancer, the driver's side outer vent (between the wheel and door), is floppy along the vertical axis. If I tilt it down, vibration or a bump will cause it to jump to pointing up.

Is it hard to get to that vent (IE, removing the entire dash assembly), and can I fix it without getting a new vent insert?

try to get it done under the cars 5 year comprehensive warranty.

otherwise i believe adding a very small amount of weight helps.
I have this issue occurring for me now after 5 years. will attempt a small weight before i disassemble the whole dash

You can pull the vent out without pulling all the dash out. I did mine several years ago but can't remember how. Mitsubishi replaced my vent under warranty but it didn't change. It's a design fault.
The only way I suggest you will fix it is pull it apart and some how get more friction between the pins and slots.

Sadly, I don't have that warranty, it's a 2009 model.

I'll figure out how to take it apart, and wrap the pins in felt or velvet. It's what I've done with older cars that had similar problems when I was restoring them.

I have the same issue plus the passenger side one is not sitting right and needs to be removed to see is it needs replacing or can be fixed.

How do you remove the vent on the left side near the door?

I will let you know tomorrow, gonna try to take mine out to fiddle with it...if it's easy. If not, it's gonna wait for a while.

Common problem, my 09 CJ was doing it after ~1 year (it was always parked in the sun so I guess that didn't help).

Like others have said, even if you got it replaced it would come back eventually, so maybe bodging it might be the way to go?

You would think after 8 years on the market someone at Mitsy R&D would have come up with a build change to make them 'stick' better in the place you want.
