I should note that im not swapping the screens, im swapping the actual clusters out.
I rang mitsu to get it reprogrammed and they said no. Rang some speedo shops and they were all hesitant about it. One place wanted like 250 for it and they needed my car for a day.
I got the cluster with about 23xxx kms on it so im just waiting until my car hits that and then swapping it out, currently at about 21xxx kms
When i test fitted it, the tacho was right, but I didnt drive it so dunno if the speedo is correct, I think it will be though.
I have heard someone say you can reprogram it with the MUT3 tool, but some have said you cant? Im not sure

Yeah, its not hard to find out if the speedo is ok. Just needs the OBD2 reader tool which I have. Just haven't done it yet. Might ask my mechanic if they can do the KM winding, or know someone that can do it.

Why would Mitsubishi refuse to do it?
I do wonder how much the same part is from them... not that they would fit it as it would be a different VIN.
One issue I do have is down the road someone might think it was swapped to reduce the kms on the odometer but I guess if you document the change with photos it's pretty easy to prove you have the odometer set to the correct reading.

How do you tell if it's a color display?
Just found this one for just $150 its from a 2011 with the speedo on the right, my 09 VRX has the speedo on the left.

When the display is not active how do you tell if its just red or colored?

Without the part number it's almost impossible to tell if it's colour or not, I made this mistake as the first info about the displays was wrong and I ended up with a new display with a red centre, was not happy, I was lucky to find a colour one on eBay, and also remember you will need to get the speedo reading changed, I found a place here in Melbourne that does it for $160 (maybe dearer as this was a few years ago), Mitsubishi doesn't do it as it needs to have the chip reprogrammed with the old reading and probably don't have the equipment to do it

I know it needs to be changed, but wouldn't the dealer have the equipment? What if they had to replace the cluster under warranty or if it broke? I will ask them when I get mine serviced before the end of the year... OMG I have a lot to ask them, the list is getting long LOL
This one on eBay has a VIN for the Outlander it came out of and a photo, cost is $285, is that a good price?
Seems to me the ones around half that ($150 or so) are the older red only ones and you need to spend around $300 for color.

Not sure if I'd risk it myself, assuming I can find one at a good price I'd get a pro to do the actual odometer change.
BTW does it change anything else like trip readings, as there any other settings it holds on to in the memory?
Also does the color ones have a bigger area, looking at some pictures the actual LCD area looks bigger. And does it have more features or a different layout?
