I did buy an LED light for it but it didn't fit. Really wish they had just put a plug in the whole, looks weird in the right light you can see the wiring behind the panel.

So anyone bought a light that fits the whole?

I had a brainwave today after my partner mentioned something to me today.
What about getting one of those replacement accessory sockets with just the two usb ports in there they have a positive and a negative so wouldn't be too hard to add to the existing accessory socket wiring. Your passengers can then charge their phones and keep your socket free for gps or something like that I feel may be more functional than a light as I believe led lights like that might not be legal in nsw. the factory under dash ones are as they only come on when the doors are open. But I've been warned about LEDs under dash

Most Import shops will have spare left over flares from 1/2 cuts and wrecks.

The USB thing is a good idea.

On a related topic I've now run longer cables to hide the GPS and dashcam cables which run right past that spot, it would be cool to just have USB ends to save the other sockets. Something I'll be looking into asap!

me too actually. You can buy the plug to go into the accessory socket from jaycar or any auto shop. Then pull them apart and using a test light work out positive and negative and splice into existing accessory wires. Should work a charm

Where did you get your gps wires from if i may ask?

Like most GPS units mine has a Mini USB connection on the back to power it and connect to a computer for updates, the USB to power socket is long but not long enough to run around the dash. Basically I got a mini USB 1.5m extension lead on eBay, could not find one in any local stores like JayCar.

On top of that I have a power adaptor which I have neatly hidden in the glove box and a long lead (I extended) to the socket in the spot under the arm rest between the front seats. First I removed the bit of plastic next to the glove box. Then I run the lead from inside the glove box out the back and under the dash up the weather trim and under my dash mat.

The dash cam has a long enough lead to run around the dash.

I might do a DIY with some pictures later in the week if I have time to show how I did it. Sometimes its simple things like this that makes the difference.
