Okay expanding this thread topic a little with roads and tracks I plan on visiting.

Adelaide hills
Great Ocean Road
Phillip Island (Time permitting)
Winton
Macquarie Pass National Park
Sea Cliff Bridge
Royal National Park
Bathurst

Then up the coast from Sydney to Brisbane.

Are there any other I should check out and see if they are on my route?

Which is the better HWY Newell or New England? For road conditions and traffic, ie trucks.

I've looked on Google street view but not sure how up-to-date those images are.

Okay slowly getting things together.

During the road trip what tire pressure should I run.
VRX with 18" rims.

Normally I put in about 35psi in my old car but it was on just 15" with 195/50 rubber and since this car is new for me with new tires it hasn't come up before. For such a long trip we'll be looking for comfort but in some parts on the way back we;ll be on some twisty stuff.

Okay just about set to go in a couple of weeks.

Just one question about the trip computer.

I read you can change the time it samples to give you the fuel usage, normally it's 4 hours but on the road trip I'd like it longer, anyone know how that all works

Thunderbolts Way mentioned previously may be the old Pacific Hwy just north of Bulahdelah, if it is not, then do both. Preferably early morning.

If doing Bathurst, then go to Sydney via Oberon and Jenolan caves.

From Sydney heading north, take the Old Pacific Hwy from Berowra to Hawkesbury Bridge.

Not sure if I can do those, would be so much easier without my parents in tow but heck they are partly paying for the trip.

Anyway washed the car, then got out the polish only to have it rained upon when I went to the shops, anyone got a CJ size umbrella :)

Will be taking some car wash with me if I have time to give her the once over while away, otherwise 6000km of road trip weather to come!

Wrong... It samples and updates every 30 seconds or so... definitely not hours.

It resets to a new trip after a time of being off - might be 4 hrs... wont affect a trip unless you are stopping for 4 hrs ?
Best way to measure fuel economy is litres of fuel to fill tank / trip meter kms since reset (and reset it each tank).

The only downside to the Lancers measurement method is - over time you travel say 300ks at highway cruise, then 100ks in city after resting 2 hours, the data you see will be inaccurate as it uses more fuel during the 100ks of city driving.

Yeah we will be keeping record of the fuel used, will be interesting to see how they compare.

BTW I didn't mean it samples every 4 hours (bad choice of words on my part) I meant the other thing were it averages the usage and resets like it does every morning and you're using 50+ liters per 100km for the first bit as it warms up.

I have also noticed when you hit about 50km let on the distance it goes blank and warns me of low fuel, really annoying not to see it go down to zero LOL

Ahhh right.

You can set the trip reset to manual... It's in the settings of the display somewhere.. instead of Auto, Manual, which sorts that out :)

Almost a step back with the car yesterday, had a VERY close call with a Swift.

Lucky there was enough defection in the bumpers that all I ended up with is a few scratches on my plastic noise, the bit before the bonnet.

No word if the other party will call in the insurance yet, we exchanged details but the worse they had was a bent number plate, so lucky they didn't have a tow bar! If they do get the insurance involved and I have to pay the excess then I'll get the bumper resprayed on the insurance.

Now I know why they have a bit of flex in those bumpers!

Almost set to go... just one more thing.

Fuses - is it worth having any spare and how hard is it to get to the ones behind the glove box?

Also I have 2 power sockets, one under floor console in the middle and the other in front of the gear change, are they connected to the same fuse? I have my dash cam, GPS and phone plugged in, maybe a 2nd phone all at once, is this too much?
