Interior Pillar Wrap, Paint or Flocking?

Postby Lancer1993 » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:59 pm

Been looking at ways to spruce up the interior of my VRX and one thing I was thinking was to cover the plastic trims.

Now one option is the ever popular carbon wrap but I was thinking something more up market, I've seen some cars have a felt type material like the roof lining is made of but I'm not sure if it can be done or how to do it. Plus where to get the material or how to apply it or what it's even called.

Has anyone done anything like this?

ETA - I corrected some spelling and added to the thread title.

Okay but if that brings up some sex site I'll be in trouble LOL

ETA - some good info, wasn't sure what it's called. Not sure if I'd try it but will see if any local firms do flocking in SE QLD. Would be a unique look for a CJ. That said some material or wrap might be a lot cheaper and easier on the pillar plastics.

Don't think I'd be ripping the dash out to do the lot but it would be cool if it was an option on the RA or EVO from the factory.

Problem with doing parts like pillar trim is the extra thickness of the material so parts don't sit the same way as before.

You know, I've read the thread title about five or six times and only just noticed it says 'warp'...

...make it so.

LOL I'll change the title.

I know another option is vinyl paint, I just wanted something with a different texture than the stock beige ones.

You do know that this will most likely decrease the value of the car as not everyone will want a painted\flocked interior, seen the show cars that don't sell because of stuff done to the interior etc? If you're keeping it forever, fair enough.

And why do you keep saying ETA? You know that means Estimated Time of Arrival right? Been doing my head in wondering where you're going to and why you're letting everyone know...

ETA - Edit to add, its common on other threads

I'd be keeping the car at least 5 years, probably longer... put it this way I still have my last car and got it new over 20 years ago.

I'm not thinking of doing the dash and I guess the benefits of doing anything to the plastic trim is they can always be replaced.

I know just about any mods can lesson the value of the car when it comes to the look.

Just found this flocking wrap but can't find any on eBay, could be another option for pillars or parts of the dash to give that flocking look which can be removed later.

I painted the interior part on the silver trims on doors and dash and also the black electrical covers from front to back. But its not for everyone. At first
I went with a cheap carbon fibre wrap that was just contact really but it was difficult to get around the corner parts without wrinkles.

You can buy CF replacement covers but you'll be paying for them.

I agree the easies option is vinyl paint, cheap and looks okay, but with the hydro dip you can paint them any color/pattern you like including carbon fiber look. Wrap is okay if you know what you're doing.

I just wish that flocking came in a handy spray can.

There is a slight cut mark on one of mine that I really want to hide but I'm not set on one option yet.

As I said before, worse case you get some replacements from a wrecker (or dealer) if you screw them up.
