could`ve been just a sticky BOV, i`ve read somewhere that the GFB BOV slide may need a light oiling sometimes just with a smear of engine oil.

but if its running fine now and no CEL then the problem has. probably solved itself

The BOV doesn't vent to air does it?

bunnish:
Yeah the BOV is fully adjustable, can vent 100%, recirculate 100%, or be placed anywhere in between (50/50, 30/70 etc). Also has spring adjustment.

I figured making the spring rate soft might allow boost to pressure to leave before it hits 25+ PSI, but it hasn't had any affect.

I've got it at 50/50 with soft spring. Tried closing to recirculate 100% (like the stock one would), however im still hitting big boost.

Yea but only when i ease off the throttle, doesnt make any noise between gears due to the overboost. The trumpet came with the unit. Really like it to be honest, just gotta sort this problem out and ill be happy.

Thinking about getting a CAI then taking it in to a tuner to see if they can work it out

A stock RA just won't hold this level of boost, the synthetic BOV is renowned for leaking boost well below 20psi. To hold that level of boost there has to be some other work done. Post a couple of pics of the engine bay, intercooler etc if you can.

Gonna lay cash that it is GST tuned with a boost pill

- our cars are 100% recirc and the ecu uses the recirc air in calculations for boost etc esp around sst gear changes. There are a few peeps who use vent to air with no alleged ill effects but personally I would not chance it - given that the issue occurred after you changed the BOV I would guess that is the issue
- Unless you upgrade the turbo a CAI is going to add nothing performance wise to your car over a good sports filter. On top of that you will need an experienced tuner who can adjust MAF tables so your ECU calculates load correctly. There are several better things you can spend money on than this (IC, 3 port, hi flow cat etc)

Sorry Peter but I disagree re the BOV - the TD04 can hit 25/26 PSI peek on the standard BOV with no other mods other than a tune and a pill, it's just that firstly you're pushing it out to the limits, and secondly not actually getting the best out of the turbo without at least a hi flow cat to let the air move (Lower more sustained boost gives more power across the rev range - eg I'm tuned at 23.5psi and hold that from 3k - 5.5k before dropping to 19psi at 6.8k rpm). The BOV is cheap but it does do the job most of the time, just has a higher failure rate at higher boost than the evo X/IX ones.

I think you need someone with a tactrix to look at your ecu and also log the ecu to see what is happening at boost

Marc is right Peter, my plastic DV held 25psi without a problem.

I'm happy being wrong, I'm not running that turbo so I don't have any skin in this game, but I've never seen it done and can't see the point. Surely that turbo would be so far past its efficiency point at 25psi that it just wouldn't be generating extra power regardless of exhaust or whatever else had been done, on a stock bolt-ons engine the extra heat would be offsetting any other gains.

And Omar... sorry mate don't get too excited, if it had 300kw atw you'd know it!

your probably right there peter, theres no point running the TD04 @ 25psi but it looks good on the boost guage for a second or two ;)
sorry, looked good.

Ok, got a couple of pics for reference, not sure how much you'll be able to tell me, it looks pretty stock in there...

And here's a pic of the boost gauge and where it peaks

nice pics, very explanatory but doesnt help much with the diagnosis.

the bov before the GFB was the stock plastic one @ about 22psi?
and the GFB peaks @ about 27psi?

everything looks stock exept fpr the bov.

when the GFB peaked was it on full recirc?

coilovers too, nice :)

It was set to 50/50 at the time, however when i make it full recirc. it still hits high boost.
