The rockford amp is pretty much useless to cars not wired for it, and you will get better results with an aftermarket one installed under the passenger seat, the rf headunits are better then the ES one, but it's hard to find one at a good price ( it took me ages to get a mmcs at the right price). I would avoid the Chinese eon eBay units, they are often unreliable and features don't work

It probably would work but for how long? And how well would it's features work I would not guarantee. Better buying a better unit, people on here have a variety of headunits and will be able to tell you their experiences

What year model is your car, that will also determine what you can & can't do...

So, if you buy a factory unit, you'll have to make sure it comes out of a pre-MY2013 or it won't work.

Your only factory headunit option is a DVD based mmcs a01-a04. Hard to find at a good price, I have heard it's good value to buy headunits online from the USA, just need the adapter for wiring it and a fascia (seen this as a package for around 130$) on eBay if you search under lancer.

I'm a bit late here but Akram is 100% on the money, I have the sub under the passenger seat and it brings everything forward and is a huge improvement over the RF system. Head units are an issue and not cheap to fix, reliably, and unless you can do that very little point in trying anything else, amp, speakers...
