you can't tell someone not to enter once it's turned amber tho - It's physically impossible if your 1cm from the intersection traveling at the speed limit (let's say 60) and the light turns amber.... you CANNOT stop and the light is amber.

Therefore they MUST allow it...
if u are across that first intersection-line before it's red, ur in the green, as far as I've learnt... I'd be kicking up the biggest stink if a cop pulled me over after going thru an amber light... THE BIGGEST.... They've NEVER pinned me for anything worthwhile, worst so far was "failing to keep left on the freeway" - the asshole was driving up my ass, there was a car next to me, and we were all traveling right on the speed limit... I couldn't slow down (cop), I couldn't speed up (cop) and I couldn't move over (other person) So I just kept traveling in the right lane (where I BELONG M.F.) and 1 minute up the road he pulls me over and gives me a fine....

I don't wanna sound like a derelickt (probably not how it's spelt....) but cops are more asshole than brain.... well known fact.....

At the risk of sounding whingy.... cops are what pisses me off the most when driving....

I've got a few questions built up for vicroads, might have to hit 'em up soon and ask this one as well - it's bugging me now!

i have always been told (from Police, RTA people) that Amber means Stop unless you need to brake heavily or stopping will cause an accident.

I think you have your lines mixed up. Refer diagram below:

Ofey is talking about the lines circled in Red, you are getting confused with the one circled in blue.

These are the NSW rules on amber lights:

http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/maint ... le.57+0+N/

57 Stopping for a yellow traffic light or arrow

(1) A driver approaching or at traffic lights showing a yellow traffic light must stop:

(a) if there is a stop line at or near the traffic lights and the driver can stop safely before reaching the stop line—as near as practicable to, but before reaching, the stop line, or

(b) if there is no stop line at or near the traffic lights and the driver can stop safely before reaching the traffic lights—as near as practicable to, but before reaching, the nearest or only traffic lights, or

(c) if the traffic lights are at an intersection and the driver cannot stop safely in accordance with paragraph (a) or (b), but can stop safely before entering the intersection—before entering the intersection,

and must not proceed past the stop line or nearest or only traffic lights, or into the intersection (as the case may be), until the traffic lights show a green or flashing yellow traffic light or no traffic light.

So if you put the foot down before the stop line on amber, you might get done. Saying that sometimes is unavoidable cause there some wanker tailgating you & last thing you want to do is brake suddenly.

Oh yeah, roundabouts piss me off! 9/10 times dickhead drivers always see the need to cut in front of me & don't give way to their right.

I always go through them slow now, cant tell you how many times I've nearly T boned these mental defectives!

Cheers on that info billyboy ;-) +1

And yeah, I was getting confused about which lines he was talking about...

Man, I was at some lights last night... green for 1 car.... (and he didn't even F'in notice...) then amber for about 5 cars including myself....

What's the deal there? u know what I mean... those "turning off a busy street into a tiny street" traffic lights that literally are amber by the time you've taken your foot off the brake....

There's one near my work, only EVERYONE goes down this "little" street, so there's a MASSIVE que, all the way up this "busy" street... and if ppl don't go thru amber, 1 person would get thru per light and 5 more ppl would JOIN the que.... I feel I'm doing the road a favour going thru amber in this case.... if I didn't, I'd be holding up the main road cos the turning lane is overflowing - and it happens in at a LOT of lights... not just a freak-intersection I'm talking about....

Think that law should be re-considered, not cracked down upon..... IMO....

and the "if u THINK u can stop" bit annoys me... make it black and white.... that's a BIG grey area right there....
Who's to say I'm not worried about the guy behind me's brakes? more likely I get run-up-the-ass than have a crash because I 'ran a amber' - lol...

God, I didn't realise how much that rule actually DOES piss me off! I should seek help perhaps - lol j/k ;-)

Like those guys that bought the first PS3 and xbox 360 only to smash it.
What a waste. :(
