OBD scanners can be quite useful. Even a cheap bluetooth enabled one can be fun to use with phone apps like Torque. I think I have one that only costs $10. Works great.

Raihan maybe you should get your battery tested. Your problem sounds very similar to mine when I added too many interior mods and the battery could not handle the power draw.

I upgraded my battery to a dry cell and the problem was solved.

Had the same issue a while ago, car was doing wired clicking noises but wouldn't start and the dash was lighting up like a Christmas tree, to find out later the battery was flat

DONT waste your money on those OBD2 Bluetooth readers, they are rubbish and take forever to connect sometimes... I actually ended up buying a proper OBD2 reader from EBAY for around $40, which even translates the error code into normal English. lol

I bought this recently http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Car-Engine-F ... 19e5aee2f7

But if you want one of those cheap Bluetooth POS ones... http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-V1-5-ELM ... 3f25db4b93

I still have 2 of them, I will never ever use again.... I would give them to you if you were here in QLD. lol Not worth shipping as they are so damn cheap.

Good to know Thorsten i might go that avenue instead. The idea of being able to reading the info on mobile app did sound good.

Thanks el3ment. Will purchase the one you recommended.
Just a quick question.. will that one unit be capable of connecting to different branded cars? If so what is the process of modifying its setting so that it is suited to other brands? Is it a matter of plug and play or do i have to program it through a pc?

i was looking at them on ebay, it appears to be a matter of selecting the car make from the menu.

It depends on what protocols the unit supports.

SAE PWM covers most Fords with some new ones coming out with CAN.
SAE VPW is mainly used by GM.
ISO 9141-2- this is a weird one. Chrysler?
KWP2000- As above.
CAN - The one that the CJ Lancer has.

scan tools can become expensive depending on the features functionality.
what modes it can read from the ECU and if it can write back.
Also if it can read all the other ECU's in the car for example TCU (transmission) ABS\ASC (stability control)
and then if it can write to them too.
speed is another factor. some of us like to have real time logging (or as close to it as possible)

have a browse around on the interwebs let us know what you end up deciding on.
