I'm thinking of buying another car....

Postby Mystique » Fri Oct 11, 2013 10:32 am

Hey guys! :)

With everything that's been going on work at the moment, (it's all bad), I've managed to secure myself another job ( well a trial, but with my experience I shouldn't have an issue getting through it), the job is about an hour from where I live, and I'm in need of buying another car (no more then $1500), Because quiet honestly I don't really want to put heaps of K's on my Lancer >_< I've already done nearly 4,000 in 6 weeks :|

I'm a little stuck on what I should buy :O I was just thinking something like an Excel or Civic :S Just because they are small and cheap on fuel :P Because I have no idea what's reliable or what not :S

Recommendations? Kgo! :P

4,000 kms in six weeks!!! Amateur!!! Lol I've done 4,100 in 4 wks!!!
Um whilst it might be an idea in buying a second car you have to consider all the other expenses... Such as insurance, maintenance, reliability... It's pretty much everything you went through when buying your lancer is pretty much the same thing you have to go through...
For about $1500 there isn't a lot out there but you never know what you might find... Don't stick just to $1,500... Something decent might cost $1,700 and you'll miss out coz you narrowed your vision...
Have a look on car sales but the biggest factor would be age and kms and how it has been driven/looked after!!
Mine's quicker then yours!!!

Your best car IMO is your current Lancer

Car brands I would be sticking to
Hyandai not the excel but more the accent (2002+)
Nothing with a Honda badge!!! They would be headaches!!
You could probs find an old focus or Briana but I would be careful...

At the end of day do a through check of the car before you pay for it!!!
Mine's quicker then yours!!!

Get an older Lancer or Mirage tbh, for their age they're reliable lol.

I agree with everyone else though, I'd mark up the price point for your budget if you want something good and reliable, lowest you can go is 1.5k, but I'd push it to 2.5k for highest IMO; for around 2-2.5k you will find many more cars with low/good kms and are really reliable. :)

I can probably do that :P New job is going to hopefully pay a bit better, but still not 100% sure, my current lancer would be more reliable, I just don't want to put heaps of K's on it just yet :P I may drive it to work once a week O_o maybe xD Lol :P But I guess we will see how things go :3

I may up the budget a bit, I've seen a few nice lancers on gumtree for about $2000, with lowish k's, I need something that I'm kinda familiar with xD

You can still drive your new Lancer for now to work, and save up until you get your daily driver if you're fine with it. :)

+1 Even though you said you don't want to put Km on your car Tiff.

Why? How much do you hate yourself? :P

If you're driving +1hr every day... in a 'bomb'.. you gotta be? It'd make better sense for short runs.

I'd save that money in a fund to pay for other peoples carelessness (scratches and dents from other people's carelessness, chips on windscreen bonnet etc). Cars are a finite object, you can preserve them to a certain extent but I think there's a limit to amount of effort you need to put in.

You want to buy a cheap car to avoid putting kms on your other cheap car? Doesn't make sense to me...

Like others have pointed out, after buying it, registering it, servicing it, its pointless... You're just being sentimental
