Is it worth going for the mitsu mod which converts your boot to carry a full size spare??

And is this only available for the sportsbacks or can the sedans do this as well?

I've been wondering about this for a while.

Yeah the sedan can have it aswell, but i hear it cuts down the space in the boot big time. To a point where it is inhabiting.

Have you got a VRX with the 18"s or an ES or VR with 16"s?

It really comes down to personal preference. Sure its great to have a full size spare in the back, but if you need your boot, its not the most practical thing to have.

I 'think' with the full size spare, they have to put in a fake floor to fit the extra width of the tire.

Im actually thinking about taking my space saver out of my car. Since i got 19"s its pretty pointless to have it in there. Coz even if i get a flat, the size difference between the space saver and the 19"s is pretty big.

So really...personal preference.

I've heard the evo's dont even have a spare at all, just a repair kit but not sure if that is true??

The evo x comes with a patch up kit and a mini compressor to inflate the tyre again. Some companies are now coming out with a new technology in tyres so that they can run perfectly fine when flat (for a period of time) without damaging the wheels and front of the car. I am considering filling my tyres up with nitrogen to see the difference in ride, performance and tyre damage which is suppose to be better.

I prefer a full size spare myself. Changed the hubs on my trailer to take the RA stock rims (extra spares if needed) They have to kits for the boot one for the smaller 16" rims which will still leave you a decent boot, however the 18" kit brings the floor almost in line with the boot lid latch. You can get a product called the pump for flats but it corrodes the rims, a product called tyresheild which has to be installed before the flat but these wont help for a side wall puncture or if you break the bead.

It's really worth thinking about the option, those space savers are just that, and if you need to fit it you can end up running your kit into the ground

Hey Azza, I wouldnt waste your time or money on N2.

Remember Air is 78% N2 anyway.
Here are a few pros and cons to consider.

$5 to $10 per tyre......Its should only cost that much for all 4 tyres! It sounds like a rip off. I just thought it seemed cool cause the new Nissan GTR comes filled with N2. I thought it might make my RA go from 0-100 in 3.5 secs too. (probably not though)

I paid $6 per tyre, The N2 molicules are bigger then air molicules and doesn't leak through the rubber as quick as the air does (you are supposed to check your tyres at least once a month but with N2 you get about three months of not checking, leaves more time for driving). I also think that the base Evo has a spare (space saver) but the MR doesn't

LoL air molecules vs N2 molecules. Like Aussie said 78% of air is nitrogen. I find it's just as easy fill the tyres now and again at the petrol station after I fill up.. Takes literally 5mins and with these automatic air compressors, you can do it in ur sleep.

Ahh shit it's beeping at me.. better stop filling.

Although, I did buy a cheap $20 compressor to stick in the cigarette lighter.. but I don't think it's good enough to fill the tyre. I think it's not strong enough to overcome the pressure. Thanks supercheap!

But it's an interesting thought about the full size spare.. I guess depends on how far you expect to be away from home at all times. Plus if it's a blowout or slow leak. You can potentially get quite far just by making sure you stop regularly to refill the one with the nail/screw shoved in it.

That reminds me, there was a gang going around thinking it was funny to attack cars with a nail gun.. I copped one. How else would you get a nail in the side of a tyre?
