Side skirt install

Postby bennieboi101 » Thu May 09, 2013 6:30 pm

Hey guys,
so i want to put some side skirts on my car cause it came with nothing when i brought it. My concern is that im going to have to pay some bodyworks guy a stupidly large amount for a simple job.

If i get sideskits from ebay or a wreckers i want to know if anyone has taken stock ones off was it easy to take off? cause if they are easy to take off then i will try to get them from wreckers. Are stock ones easy to install to one that has never had side skirts installed? will i need to drill thing or create mounts?

Just wondering if anyone has experience here. :D thanks in advance

Im unsure how to exchange works here so if anyone needs iphone advice/repairs let me know haha

I had vrx ones installed on my ES by a smash repairs place. $120 from memory. You need holes drilled just on the inside bits near where the mud flaps go I think...hence you need the mud flaps at the front removed. Then they were ALSO sika-flexed on....which makes them very hard to get off

I can take pictures of where the nails go in If you want

yeah that would be awesome if you can mate. I just want to know what im in for trying to install these myself. im not shy to drill holes if i have to, installed my spoiler and speakers myself and had to get the drill out for that, just hope the skirts will be nice and simple.

Sorry for late reply net issues -.-

wow ok that looks pretty simple. what about the underneith area im sure more than just front and back screws hold them on? maybe clips in the center? would there be some kind of adhesive all over as well.

My thinking is that they dont go on EVERY lancer sent out so there must be some ease of access to taking these things on and off :D

Next step is i need to find a set haha.

As far as I know... sikaflex has been used as the adhesive. Very hard to take off. I can have a look in the morning in case there are any extra screws

Call a few places if you're considering getting it done by someone else - from memory, Carmate quoted me $50, and Concord Customs $20.

$50 for install, thats wicked cheap. i would pay that. Hell it would take me 2+ hours to put em on then freak out then take them off then put them back on again right. So for $50 i would just pay some one and leave the car with them for the day.

The key is finding the skirts themself, i need black ones, and mitsi want like $490 for factory ones, but im sure i could get something from wreckers of aftermarket even for way cheaper.
