there is power to my unit (little orange LED flashes)

it just doesnt do what its supposed to with my headunit... ie... its the headunit most likely

that is correct, in that case, is there any way to extract the firmware from someone elses unit to try and see if it makes a difference???

I installed mine the other night.

I used the supplied wiring loom that came with the Canbus.

The plugs can be hard to push in on both the Canbus module and the back of the HU.

I cable tied my Canbus to the stock wiring loom with the 2 big white connectors.

When I put the gear into reverse the rear camera comes up on screen.

So far I haven't updated firmware.

All my other stuff works great. Including updated GPS software and AUX input as well as bluetooth.

I've tried several apple devices and so far I believe only the iphone4 generation works. I tried 6 devices and only 3 worked.

The steering wheel buttons do work but lowering volume (-) doesn't do what it's supposed to.

The screen dimming doesn't work but I haven't played with it much I think it will be a setting somewhere, no big deal to me.

I'm happy with mine and it works fine.
