agree
push hard for a refurbished or replacement transmission
they have zero grounds to deny your claim by the sounds of it.
hopefully you reported it at 40,000km when it first started happening. I would make a point of getting every correspondence in writing from now on. otherwise you will get jerked around.

stick to your guns, keep bugging the service manager.

Good luck, hope the situation falls in your favour.

As much as there are complaints over the SST gearbox online, I have not yet heard of one instance in Australia where someone had been refused warranty by Mitsu Aus for the gearbox. For the most part if you're persistent they'll eventually come around and replace your 'box under warranty.

true.
it must scare them when customers rock up with a sheet full of codes, and the relevant service manual pages.
Have armed a few people now - they tend to get stuff fixed up pronto :)

UPDATE:

i got the car back from the service centre today, they have said that they did a drive in it yesterday to collect some data and have sent it to Adelaide (apparently their system is e-mail only and no phones any more....). They expect to hear back next week and have told me that they are aiming at replacing the clutch plates and the mechatronics (the things that decide how much power goes to the gears!?)

i'll keep you updated which how i go, they paperwork says that they sent of the data and that its a *** warranty job *** so that looks good.

basically just made small talk with the service guy about formula 1 (mutual interest haha) then told him i dont care what they do to fix it, but it needs to BE fixed, which is agreed with.

i also ordered a OBD2 USB plug from ebay for like 11 bucks so we will see if that comes in handy :P

will update when i know more.

ok another update, they have replaced the Mechatronics unit and the clutch plates and its driving like new again (i think the main issue was the mech unit however they did want to do the clutches and its gone from a 7/10 improvement to 10/10).

overall i'm realy happy with how the dealer handled it and they have looked after me very well (thanks Norris Mitsubishi). I thought they were blowing smoke up my A$$ but it seems that they were being genuine, sorry so many give dealers on the whole a bad rap.

This is great news!

It's not a bad idea to get new clutch packs. Saves having to pull to box apart again.

Sounds like they looked after you well. Nice to know there's some good Mitsubishi dealerships around Brisbane.

When mine got replaced I fully felt like I was taking advantage of them!!
